Chapter 279
â Wilbur .
Faron âYup.â
Wilbur fell silent for a while before saying. âItâs illegal. Arenât you going to do anything about it?â
âWhat can I do, man?â Faron shrugged âItâs all organized under a legal front We wouldnât be able to get anything even if we launched an investigation Besides, anyone who can hold an auction like this would probably be someone with significant influence in the system Surely you know that better than me.â
Wilbur chuckled. Yes, not everything was as easy to control as it seemed.
âWell, I donât mind taking a trip if it really is as good as you make it out to be, Wilbur said.
Faron smiled. âIâll give you Ted Dominicâs contact. Call him in two nights and heâll take you there.â
âI need to call someone for this?â Wilbur asked.
âOf course. An illegal auction like this isnât open to just anyone. Tedâs a pretty wellâknown broker around these parts, specializing in getting people access to events like this. Heâs got a pretty impressive social network.â
âAlright, then. Iâll take a trip there. I just might find something useful.â
Wilbur was on the lookout for a contribution to get Faye a Marrow Cleansing Pill. Despite finding something worth contributing not being guaranteed, it was still worth trying his luck.
Besides, Faron and Elsa were both cultivators now. Faye was the only one left and it was honestly a little
unfair.
The two men drank until late in the night, chatting about the auction. Finally, Faye returned home looking
rather tired.
She sighed at the sight of the two tipsy men. âYou sure look like youâre having fun. Iâm about to pass out from the exhaustion.â
âIs everything alright?â Wilbur asked.
Faye sat down, pouring herself a glass. She took a sip, then let out a long sigh before saying, âEverything ended perfectly. I was even going to ask Sammy to lunch tomorrow so we could all get together, but she had to leave right after to catch her next performance,
âI canât believe these washedâup celebrities are still busy,â Faron chuckled.
Wilbur asked, âDid she use to be really big?â
âYeah, bro. Sammy blew up internationally five years ago with just one song, but sheâs been dropping in popularity ever since for some reason. Sheâs still got a lot of fans, though,â Faron said.
Wilbur nodded. Faye finished her drink and said, âIâm spent, Iâm going to bed. You two should get some
rest too.â
âRight. Iâm to do just that. Goodnight,â Faron said
Faye and Faron left, so Wilbur went to bed as well.
The next afternoon, Wilbur woke up and packed a small travel bag. Seeing as Faron had still not sent him Tedâs number, Wilbur headed to Faronâs room.
Faron was snoring loudly on the living room floor. It was clear that he had a little too much to drink the
:
Faronâs bottom. âWake the f*ck up. Do you know what time
Faron rubbed his bottom as he opened his eyes blearily. He glanced at his watch and seemed to sober up.
âForget it. Iâm skipping work .â Faron lay back down, prepared go right back to sleep..
Wilbur glared at him, aiming another kick at his bottom. âAre you serious? Do you remember what you to me last night?
âWhat is it, bro?â Faron groaned in frustration.
Wilburâs expression darkened. âThe auction. Ted Dominic. You were supposed to send me his number. Do you remember now?
Faron furrowed his brows before smacking himself on the forehead. âOh my f*cking god! I blacked out.â
He whipped out his phone at once and sent a number to Wilbur. âDonât mention me once youâre there, bro.â
âOf course. Youâre Mister Campbell, arenât you? Exclusive man.â Wilbur turned to leave after that. Faron chuckled awkwardly, climbing onto the couch and falling back to sleep.
Wilbur got into his car and drove over to Toneville at once.
Toneville was a secondâclass city in Kardon Province, which was around a fiveâhour drive from
Seechertown.
It was a little past three the afternoon when Wilbur arrived.
He took out his phone and booked himself a room at one of the top hotels around him, then drove over
there.
âThe Starry Hotel,â Wilbur muttered as he read the sign on the building. He then went inside to get his keycard to his room.
It was a luxuriously decorated fiveâstar hotel, and the cost for a night there was not cheap.
