Luz was walking back to her home located in a plot of land outside the city, today was a shopping day and soon it would be her graduation party. The way back is long, but she decided to walk anyway.

On her way she could see roads flanked by large hills full of dense vegetation and tall trees. Luz was walking immersed in her thoughts, advancing along the road with two large bags in each hand and she was already regretting not taking locomotion, her arms hurt <> The young woman was lamenting aloud while pouting. While she was at it she felt something strange, she heard what seemed to be the whimpering of a small animal, a puppy dog.

The whimpering was tragic and it was clear that the creature was suffering. Luz could not be indifferent in front of the pitiful cry, she separated from the road and directed all her attention in the direction of the sound. He paid great attention since he could not define well the place where they came from, they sounded far away, but even so he decided to try. At the side of his path there was a large number of bushes full of thorns and loaded with blackberries, he dropped his bags and carefully pushed aside the thorny branches, he made his way through them getting big bruises on the exposed skin of his hands and neck, leaving long red lines as a result of the rose of his skin with thorns.

Luz used to wear long sleeved polo shirts and loose pants, all very baggy as she was ashamed of her body, it was only because of this that she did not end up with more wounds as her clothing protected her. When she managed to free herself, she saw the tall pine trees in front of her. She became nervous when she heard the small animal let out its pitiful howl again, she ignored her own wounds and followed the sound with attention, she went deeper into the forest while she could appreciate how the pines planted by forestry companies were replaced by the native trees of the place such as Araucarias and Alerces, she could feel the aroma of nature that infiltrated her nose, making a pleasant sensation fill her soul.

As he searched for the direction of the sound, he wondered what could have happened to the cub.

- Did he fall off a cliff or was he attacked by a wild animal, a puma perhaps? - This made her uneasy and filled her with fear, but then she convinced herself that it was impossible since the pumas were located much further inland and a small puppy dog would not be able to escape their attack. Convinced of this, she plucked up the courage to go ahead as her desire to help the animal was greater than her fear.

She followed the sound, walked in its direction, but it still seemed far away and as she continued to go deeper into the forest, she saw trees getting bigger and taller, with huge trunks where two or three people with their arms outstretched would be needed to embrace their perimeters, she also noticed a dense foliage that hid the sunlight every so often. While she wandered in her thoughts, she followed the animal's howl, it seemed to be closer but she still could not find it.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

-Calm down, I'm here to help you,” she spoke aloud to give some comfort to the cub she still couldn't find.

As he spoke he felt that the puppy stopped crying, without his whimpering it would be even more difficult to find him.

She paused for a few minutes, paid attention to any sound, even if it was the slightest like footsteps on dry leaves. When she sensed something, she followed in his direction. She walked more or less fifty meters and managed to spot a puppy that seemed to be a small dog, maybe a juvenile, that means it is a big puppy but it already glimpses what will be its image in its next adult condition, with its hind leg hooked to a bear trap, she exclaimed - But in Chile those traps are not used, there are no bears in the country and they are absolutely forbidden to hunt pumas or any other species!

As she approached, she saw the beautiful animal more clearly. It looked like a Siberian dog puppy, but the distribution of the white and lead colors of its coat, he could not recognize them as typical of the breed. It looked more like a small wolf because of the shape of its paws and muzzle, it was almost black, but with white tufts on its head. He had a beautiful pair of bicolor eyes one was blue and one was brown, in front of him, she thought.

- It's impossible that it was a wolf, they don't exist in our country! - She only saw them in zoos.

When she got close enough, she noticed that the puppy looked at her with surprise and curiosity directly into her green eyes, but then he got into a defensive position and began to growl.

Calm down - repeated Luz - Calm down, I won't hurt you, I just want to help you - Moving her hands very slowly to reassure the animal.

She used to talk out loud to express her thoughts which brought her more than one nickname like crazy, chatterbox, a rare thing among others in her school, but she didn't care and just laughed when she realized that she was talking to herself and remembered fondly that her mother did the same.

Luz repeated constantly - “Poor little animal, it must be suffering a lot, what idiot would think of setting traps in the forest? Calm down, calm down, I will help you get loose and I will take you to the vet to take care of your wounds”.

As she spoke, the puppy stopped growling, tilted his head and raised one of his ears as if in an exclamation of “what is he saying?” and lowering his head he put his tail between his hind legs.

Luz moved closer until she managed to reach him and said “please don't bite me, I just want to help you”.

She put her hand on the animal's back and caressed it tenderly, which seemed to calm it down. She then turned her gaze to its wounded paw and fixing her gaze on its rear she exclaimed “Valla, valla, but if you're a girl” then frowned as she looked at the bloody paw prey to the sharp edges of the trap. “I hope it's just soft tissue and that it hasn't fractured your bones, I don't want her leg amputated”.
