Steven explained, “The child Queenie is carrying isn’t mine. How many times do I have to say it for you to believe me? I didn’t have sex with any woman, including you and her.”

Diana was taken aback, thinking of those photos, and said, “But those photos weren’t doctored.”

“The photos were doctored, just that the editing was exceptionally good. When Queenie was younger, and it came time for her to get married, I had a car accident, and she left. This was the first time he had explained those things to her.

Steven suddenly stood up, looking at her with a pained

expression. He said in a low voice, “Diana, we will not end here. You will understand in the future.”

He strode away, and only when he reached the door did he say, “Tonight, I’ll be eating at home. I’ll be in the study. Come down when dinner is ready.

“And also, from now on, I will trust you, so try to trust me once too.” Then, he left without looking back at her.

Diana felt that Steven seemed to have started caring about her.
