âXiaoshuang, you say your eldest sister-in-law and second sister-in-law are outsiders and itâs understandable that they donât come to see Ahao. But your eldest and second brothers, they are Ahaoâs brothers, his blood brothers, bound by the same flesh and bones, why havenât they come to see him?â
Yunâs mother simply couldnât understand this. The brothers once were so close to each other. How could they suddenly change when trouble hit their family?
Yun Shuang was puzzled, why couldnât her mother grasp this reality?
She used to perceive her mother as intellectual, virtuous, gentle, and considerate. However, this incident had totally changed her perspective.
She stayed back intending to console her mother, though her father didnât explicitly approve, he still tacitly approved of her decision to stay.
âMother, eldest brother is probably still blaming himself for not stopping his wife from spreading those awful rumors about Xiaohu. As for my second brother, it might be because when Hanhan went to second sister-in-law to confront her about Xiaohuâs rumors, with his nature, he surely stood by his wife.â
Regardless of what his wife had done, in front of others, second brother always honor her wife. She knew this very well.
âBut why havenât they come to see Ahao? They are brothers, a clear explanation would settle the issue. Why havenât they come?â
Yunâs mother kept dwelling on this, finding it hard to accept. They were brothers, why did they now appear as if they were strangers?
This made her, as a mother, feel terribly distressed.
âI understand why eldest and second sisters-in-law havenât come. After the confrontation last time, things have become tense. They are also probably scared of Ahao, hence they dare not come.â
She paused before continuing, âMother, things became so tense that reconciliation seems impossible at this point. With time, things will fade away.â Even though she knew that time would not erase all, it would just suppress them deep.
All of the Yun family children were educated, and Yun Shuang was supposed to start working in the factory when she was replaced by the village chiefâs daughter.
Now Yunâs mother didnât dare to step out of the house, fearing that she would be accused of favoritism, which she didnât know where sheâd shown.
âXiaoshuang, my dear, everyone is saying Iâm partial, where have I shown favoritism?â
She was now caught between a rock and a hard place. She meant to alleviate the issue, and small missteps turn around, she was thought to be partial, which she wasnât.
Yun Shuang comforted her mother, âMother, just let those words go in one ear and out the other. If youâre well and healthy, thatâs the best reward for us.â
She was worried that her mother was taking things too hard, tormenting herself.
She believed that her mother was only temporarily confused, unwittingly overlooking Hanhanâs feelings.
And that had escalated the misunderstanding.
Yunâs mother gave a wry smile, her face showing a hint of desolation, âAt that time, I truly believed they were brothersâ¦even though they were living apart, they were still brothers.â
She knew that as a tree grows, it branches out, but always considered them as brothers. The money send by Ahao for emergency uses, she thought they were all family and used it, considering we are all one family.
Yun Shuang knew her mother had reached a dead end. Could she still persuade her?@@novelbin@@
âMother, from now on, you stop concerning yourself with the matters of eldest and second brotherâs families. If in the future, eldest and second sister-in-law come for your help, do not bother. Just peacefully live your life.â
She didnât know how to comfort people. If such situations had transpired on her, she might have done no better than her mother.
Every house has its own problems to deal with.
