Yun Hao caressed her small face, smoothing her slightly furrowed brows caused by worry, âIâm fine, you just take care of the house, weâll be leaving tomorrow.â
Meng Yunhan was still worried about Yun Hao going back alone, fearing he might get mistreated. He was not one for sweet words, and she was really concerned about him without her there.
Seeing her continued anxiety, Yun Hao gently embraced her and whispered in her ear, âWait for me to come back.â
What he has to confront alone will inevitably have to be confronted, and he has to make it clear that he will come back less often in the future.
No matter how much Meng Yunhan worried, she could do nothing but watch him leave.
Upon reaching the town entrance, Yun Hao bumped into his elder sister, Yun Shuang.
âElder sisterâ¦â
Yun Shuang, having been busy with work for a while, had heard that her younger brother had woken up and had already returned to the village once. She finally had time to come and check the town, thinking about where they might be living, and coincidentally ran into her little brother.
Looking at Yun Hao standing in front of her, not as an unconscious person lying in bed, but an alive and alert person, Yun Shuang felt tears welling up in her eyes. She choked and said, âAhao, I heard you awoke, thatâs really good, really good.â
Yun Hao, seeing Yun Shuang looking him up and down, said, âElder sister, I need to head back to the village for a bit, Iâm heading back to the army tomorrow.â Quite a few months had passed, he really missed his unit even though he trusted that Lu Jianjun would manage things well in his absence.
It made sense to Yun Shuang that his little brother was heading back to military now that heâd regained consciousness.
âGood, going back to the army is a great decision. Whereâs your wife?â What about his wife when Ahao heads back to the military?
Would she follow him or would she remain in the town?
His wife hadnât come with Ahao to the village today, was it because she still could not forgive their parents?
âElder sister, shall we walk and talk?â Yun Hao thought it might be better to keep moving rather than just standing there talking.
Yun Shuang then mentioned Meng Yunhan, âAhao, where is Hanhan? Why didnât she come back to the village with you?â
Since Ahao was returning to the village, why didnât he bring his wife and child?
Yun Hao explained, âWe are leaving tomorrow. Hanhan needs to bake more egg cakes and pack our stuff.â
âWhat egg cakes?â Yun Shuang asked since she didnât know what egg cakes were.
Yun Hao explained to Yun Shuang, âTheyâre just common pastries that Hanhan came up with.â
Yun Shuang reminisced about other pastries that Meng Yunhan had made before, like rice candy and wine-soaked peanuts, which tasted even better than items sold in the townâs co-op.
âSo, will Hanhan and Little Huzi follow you into the military?â
Yun Hao nodded, âYes, theyâll follow me.â
Yun Shuang was used to Yun Haoâs detached manner. Except for his soft spot for his wife, he was usually quite aloof about everything else.
She wanted to ask, did Ahao know about those things?
She was conflicted. She didnât want to judge the actions of their mother and two elder brothers with their wives.
Ahao had been awake for such a long time. He must know about these things; there was no need for her to bring them up.
âAhaoâ¦â
Yun Hao turned back and looked at Yun Shuang, âElder sister, wonât we walk a bit faster to see whether our parents are home?â
Yun Shuang answered, âAlright.â
Carrying heavy thoughts, Yun Shuang was walking so slow that Yun Hao sometimes had to stop and wait for her along the way.
Anyone else would have asked Yun Shuang if something was bothering her.
