Chapter 1079
âListen, Elliot. Even if you spout all those wild exaggerations about me out there, I would never become someone like that.â Avery lay down on the bed, then said, âAt the very least, Iâm never knitting a sweater again.â .
âThey donât know you. I just wanted them to know that you didnât climb any ladders to get to me.â Elliot wrote down all of his passwords on the piece of paper, then handed it over to her. âFor your perusal, Honey.â
Avery accepted his reasoning. She picked up the piece of paper, went through it in detail, then noticed something that stood out. âIs the âATâ at the beginning of your social media password my initials?â
âThatâs right. The pin to my credit card is Laylaâs birthday,â he said. âThe two of you are the most important women in my life.â
Averyâs cheeks flushed. Then, she asked, âAre your sons not important?â
âNot relatively as important.â Elliot sat by the bed, then added, âYou and Layla are much more thoughtful. Our sons just get angry at me all the time.â
âRobert has never gotten mad at you. You canât just decide that sons arenât as good just because of your relationship with Hayden.â
âItâs not that I donât think sons are good. I just think our sons should become independent rather than depend on me.â Elliot walked over to the window and pulled back the sheer, white curtains.â Iâll help them out before theyâre of age. Once theyâre no longer minors, I wonât coddle them anymore.â
Avery immediately retaliated, âEven if theyâre no longer minors, they would still be under twenty years old! Are you sure you wonât care for them anymore once theyâre of age?â
âIâll help them out if they ask for it. If they donât, then I wonât.â Elliot took off his coat, hung it, and sat next to Avery. âI donât want our sons to become a loser like Cole.â
Avery folded the piece of paper with the passwords, then kept it in her purse. âNot every child from wealthy families turns out like Cole. Of course, I respect your decision. If the children donât ask for our help, thereâs no reason for us to get too involved. Haydenâs got a strong personality. I doubt heâd want us to get involved in his life either.â
âThatâs true.â
âAre you sure you donât want to invite your brother to the wedding?â Avery lay down, then wrapped her arms around Elliot. âYou invited all your other relatives. Wouldnât he be upset if he found out?â
âI cut ties with him a long time ago,â Elliot said coldly. âI wonât invite him just because he knows my secrets.â
âI suppose. It doesnât matter even if we donât invite him,â Avery said. âGet some rest. Iâll wake you in a bit.â
Elliot grunted in response, CTIruF?1 his breathing very quickly settled down as he drifted off to sleep.
Averyâs heart ached as she watched his haggard face, and she hugged him tightly.
She thought of how he had departed from his usual character of a man of few words to one who sang her praises to the moon just so she would not have to suffer their misunderstandings.
From the moment they had cleared things up between them, she could clearly feel Elliotâs deep feelings for her.
From now on, she would not disappoint his love for her.
That evening, Avery dropped by Starry River Villa to pick up Mrs. Cooper and Robert.
As they approached the street leading to the resort, she slowed the car down. She unintentionally glanced out the window and saw a familiar face.
âDo you see that man in the blue shirt, Mrs. Cooper? Doesnât he look like Cole?â Avery asked.
Mrs. Cooper looked out the window and carefully studied the man in the blue shirt.
âI think itâs him! Did Master Elliot invite him?â
âHe didnât. I just asked Elliot about it this afternoon. Elliot said he didnât invite Henry and Cole.â Avery frowned, then mumbled, âWhatâs he doing here? I donât think Iâve seen the man heâs talking to.â
âHenry and Cole wonât do something to mess up the wedding tomorrow, would they?â Mrs. Cooper said with furrowed brows as a bad feeling rose inside her.
When Avery heard Mrs. Cooperâs words, her calmness instantly broke, and she became a frenzied mess of emotion!
