chapter eight
-
Alex had left the ball after her dance with Stefan, she couldn't be there anymore after their talk. she felt an unbearable amount of guilt for what she did to him. back then she didn't know that she couldn't be killed, that only a certain weapon could end her life. she didn't know that he and Damon died a couple nights later, that they turned into vampires. that he waited for her while she ran away, believing that he lived a full human life. she didn't know until it was too late to go back.
she had also missed the toast near the end of the ball, meaning that she wasn't linked to her other siblings. Ester didn't realize this until she did the linking spell, the blood completely missing her youngest daughters name in total.
"why isn't it working for her?" Ester muttered to herself. the spell completed and the paper set on fire, "no!" she yelled.
she turned to her eldest, Finn, "find Aleksandra. we need to have a chat"
Alex was at the bar, once again drinking her sorrows, when Finn showed up. he sat beside her and stole her newly filled glass, drinking the contents.
she narrowed her eyes at him, "well that was rude"
"aren't you a little young to be drinking, Aleksandra?" he asks, his stone cold gaze never changing, even towards the sister he would do anything for.
"aren't you a little old to be mother's pet?" she fired back. she noticed her brothers discomfort at her words and placed a hand on his arm, her face falling to a frown, "you're a grown man, Finneus. you shouldn't let mother control you again"
Finn ignored her comment, "she wishes to speak with you"
Alex laughed, "why? so she can put me under another sleeping spell?"
Alex then asks the bar tender for a refill, and when she isn't looking, Finn shoots a vervain and lobelia syringe into her neck, causing her to fall unconscious. without another word he takes her out of the Mystic Grill and back to their home, taking her straight to Ester's spelled room so they could talk privately.
"what are you going to do with her?" Finn asks his mother, worried for his youngest sibling. Finn always cared about Aleksandra more than the others, especially after Henrik's death, even after 1,000 years that hasn't changed.
Ester looks down at her sleeping daughter and smiles, moving a piece a hair off of her face, "your sister is the only person strong enough to stop us, and we cannot let that happen"
she grabs some candles and a dagger, the same one she used on her daughter a thousand years ago. and the one she would use once again to put her daughter to sleep.
"you're going to do the spell again," Finn breathes, he couldn't bare to imagine how that was like for her. being daggered for 900 years was lonely and empty; but being asleep, dreaming, and having to walk the earth alone seemed like torture.
Ester nodded, "you're correct. the one weapon that can kill her has been missing for 524 years, so all of eternity without her family will have to do," the original mother lights the candles and starts to prepare the spell, but Alex wakes up. she looks around the room, then her eyes fall to her mother and eldest brother.
"you should know that I've been consuming a tiny but of vervain everyday for years. you're gonna have to do better than this," she rushes towards her mother and holds a tight grip onto her arm, siphoning her magic. the lobelia affected her, but she wanted to try and see if she siphoned enough that she could gain her strength back. Finn tried to push her off but she raised her hand, making her brother slam into the wall, "huh, guess it does work"
she then grabs both of her mothers arms and begins to chant, "Magia tollox de terras. Utera aso utox. Magia tollox de terras. Utera aso utox!" the magic that Ester had been channeling from the Bennett's was slowly going away the more her daughter siphoned. before the spell could be finished, Finn snapped her neck.
Finn gently placed her on the couch and sighed. the only reason he would live on as a vampire was for Aleksandra, to see his youngest sibling happy, but he wanted to be happy too. being a vampire didn't make him happy, "I'm sorry, Aleksandra, but I cannot live like this anymore"

Alex woke up the next night in the dark. as she inhaled sharply she then realized the oxygen was low, and pushed her hands up, revealing that she was in a coffin, locked in by her mother's magic. though of course that could not keep her sealed, because she siphoned the magic out and pushed as hard as she could, opening the locked coffin.
she sat up and spotted one of the people Klaus had compelled to help around the house. all she could hear was their beating heart. their blood pumping through their body. his neck was perfectly in her view, inviting her to get a taste.
she vamp sped over to him. her eyes glowed a bright red and veins crawled down her skin and she sunk her fangs into his neck, draining him completely of blood. but that wasn't enough, she wanted more, but she had fed so much from him that she had torn off his arms and head. so Alex went around the house, searching for more blood. her hunger was insatiable, needing to be satisfied. she did this to the rest of the compelled helpers all throughout the house.
the heretic had heard what her mother and Finn were discussing before they got to her. they were going to kill her family because Ester turned them into monsters. well, if Ester wanted monsters, she was going to get one.
just as she finished off the last body at the front of the house, her brother Kol walked through the front door.
"Alek? what on earth are you doing?" he asked, surprised at the blood and body parts scattered all over the room.
Alex dropped the last body and gasped, running to her brother, "Kol!" she embraced her brother, "where are mother and Finn?"
"they're gone," he said, pulling apart from the hug, "the Salvatore's helped us, and mother and Finn vanished when the witches severed their bond to mother"
"so you're all okay?" she asked, worried for her family.
Kol nodded, "yes, we're okay," he looks over the scene once more, then back at his sister, who had blood covering her face and clothes, "you fed on all of them, didn't you?"
Kol was disappointed in her, she could tell, but she couldn't stop "they locked me in a coffin to rot! they were going to kill you and put me under the spell again so I couldn't stop them! I-I was just so angry and so hungry. I didn't have a choice... I couldn't stop"
"you did have a choice! a choice to fight it!" Kol yelled. he understood the feeling of the bloodlust all too well, the overpowering feeling of it when angry as well, but he had learned to control it, "it took me years to help you. how could you throw it all away?"
Alex shoved her brother as tears welled up in her eyes, "because I thought I was going to lose you! I-I can't lose you all again"
but the thing was, Kol was leaving in that moment. he wanted to stay, for his sister, but with his mother still alive and Klaus still hating him, he couldn't. he had always been the black sheep of their family vow. he sighed, making his way towards the stairs, but Alex's voice stops him.
"you're leaving again, aren't you?" she spoke, her voice cracking and a tear falling down her cheek. Kol looked down in shame, "you promised, Kol! we vowed to always and forever! family above all!"
Kol turned back around and walked to his sister, pressing his forehead against hers as their family always did, "I'm sorry, dear sister," he pressed a kiss to her forehead and vamp sped out of the house.
Alex screamed. the power of it shattering every piece of glass in the room. she fell to the ground and sobbed. first, the man she still loved hated her for something she couldn't control. and now her family was leaving her one by one.
all she had ever wanted was for her family to be together. she had lost them against her will nearly a thousand years ago. she wanted nothing more than to have them back. and on top of that, her hunger that she spent 400 years trying to control was back.
