chapter one
Alex walked into the Mystic Grill, looking around at her new surroundings. the small little town had changed greatly since she was there last. In 1940, there was barely anything there. a couple shops here and there, old plantation houses scattered everywhere, but now the town had a strong modern look to it. she liked it.
she starts to walk towards the bar when a girl catches her attention, she looked eerily familiar. she furrows her eyebrows and walks over to her and the boy she was seated with.
"a lot of us like to keep to ourselves for the full moon. chain ourselves up. but there are some werewolves that like to gather-" the boy speaks but stops when he sees Alex standing beside them looking confused at the girl he was talking to.
"Katerina?" Alex asks, confused as to why the vampire would be back already and not tell her. and why she would be talking about werewolves when she already knew everything about them.
the girl shakes her head, "no. I'm Elena. Elena Gilbert" she says and turns to her friend who shrugs.
"I apologize, you just look a lot like someone I haven't seen in a while. I'm Alex Pierce " Alex says putting on her best fake smile. it was still strange for her to see the doppelgangers. they fact that they all were basically the same person gave her creeps, but she's gotten used to it. she knew Elena, Katherine had told her about the newest doppelganger, and that she was supposed to be dead. that obviously didn't work out as planned.
"you're Alex Pierce? you're Katherine's sister? " Elena asks with wide eyes, jealously evident in her eyes. Alex notices this and fights the urge to roll her eyes. Katherine obviously told her about their life, and judging by the look in her eyes, she knew about her relationship with the Salvatore's. that look was a trait that the doppelgangers had; a burning jealously for anyone who even looked at someone they're into.
Alex crosses her arms over her chest and smirks, "the one and only," she keeps her gaze on the doppelganger before her eyes wondered to the boy across from her. Alex found him very handsome, "and who might you be?"
"I'm Tyler," he says holding out his hand. the girl was extremely beautiful in his eyes, it almost left him speechless.
she nods and shakes his hand. Elena coughs and the two turn towards her.
"well, Alex, why don't you sit with us," Elena smiles forcefully, scooting over to make room for her. she didn't trust Alex yet. she had heard from Stefan and Damon that she was dead, and the fact that she was here right now alive and well made her suspicious. she wanted to learn more about Alex, and the only way to do that was to not seem like a threat.
Alex hesitates, but obliges sits down in front of Tyler, smiling at the boy. just by taking an inhale of breath, she could tell he was a werewolf. he reeked of wet dog.
"so as I was saying before. some werewolves like to gather where they don't have to chain themselves on the full moon. where they can enjoy it" Tyler says and Elena leans closer. Alex leaned in as well, the topic of the conversation intrigued her.
"what kind of places?" the human girl asks.
Alex answers for Tyler, deciding to join the conversation, "mountains, state parks, deserts. you know, big open places like that" she responds casually, causing them to look at her confused.
"how do you know that?" Tyler asks, shocked at the fact that she knew so much causing her to laugh.
Alex shrugs, "i've been alive for a very long time, Tyler. I lived with werewolves for a short time, learned a few things over the years"
"is there anywhere in Tennessee?" Elena asks.
"yeah. here, give me your phone, I'll try and pull up a map" Tyler reaches for her phone and quickly searches a map.
Elena signs, running her fingers through her hair. a habit she did when she was stressed, "thanks for this. I know it's asking a lot"
"as Caroline likes to remind me, Stefan's in this mess because I bit Damon. I figure I owe you one"
Alex raises her brows, that protective instinct she had for the eldest Salvatore resurfacing, "you bit Damon?"
Tyler notices her hard glare and defends himself, "I'm still new at the whole werewolf thing. and Damon being a vampire didn't make it any better"
Alex nods slowly, "right... the whole rivalry between vampires and werewolves"
the three fall into a very awkward silence for a while as Tyler researches stuff on Elena's phone. the werewolf breaks it by giving Elena her phone back.
"here. that's your best bet" he says handing her back her phone. she smiles and stands up.
"I have to go. I'll see you later Tyler. and Alex, I'm sure I'll see you again as well, seeing as no vampire ever really leaves Mystic Falls," she says and leaves immediately, leaving the girl and Tyler alone so she could tell Damon of Alex's return.
"so..." Tyler starts, "I bet I can beat your ass in pool"
Alex gives him a smirk, "game on"

Alex and Tyler spent the next couple of hours playing pool. throughout the entire time the girl could hear his heart racing, and the going back to it's normal speed. it would do that every couple minutes at the same time he would open his mouth to speak. he obviously had questions for her but was too scared to ask, seeing as she was hundreds of years older than him.
she huffed as he did it once again, his heart jumped in speed as he tried to speak, but then he stopped, "I know you have a question so go ahead and ask it. your nervousness is ruining my concentration"
Tyler watched as she made a perfect shot and set his stick in position for his play, "so... you're Katherine's sister, which makes you what? five hundred years old?
she shrugged, "try a thousand"
Tyler's eyes widened, "what?"
"a story for another day, wolfie. but just so you know... I'm not just a vampire, I'm also a very powerful witch," it was now her turn to play. she hit the final two balls into the hole and claps at herself, "ha! I win... do I get a prize?" Alex smirks leaning against the pool table and Tyler rolls his eyes but slightly chuckles.
"it appears you have, again, for the third time" he sighs putting the balls together again and breaking them. a waiter walks over to them and pours coffee into their mugs.
"you moving in? you've been here forever" he says to Tyler who he sighs, doing something on his phone. Alex turns towards the blue eyed boy.
"i'm Alex" she smiles, shaking the boys hand and looking into his eyes. his eyes were so beautifully blue. this must've been the human Katherine talked about.
"Matt. Tyler's best friend" the boy says smiling. he looks over at Tyler who was still on his phone and raises an eyebrow towards Alex.
"he's upset that his girl toy ditched him. so now he's stuck with me" she states causing the human to nod with sadness and jealousy in his eyes.
Tyler took notice of his best friend's stare, "look, man, i never meant for me and Caroline being friends to be a problem for you" Tyler says, causing Alex to smack him in the arm at his tone of voice.
Matt shrugs, "it is what it is," he starts to walk away, but pauses and turns back around, "it's a full moon. is this the kind of thing you need another person for? I know Caroline usually helps you with that stuff" Matt asks walking back.
"i can handle it, but thanks" Tyler says before grabbing his cup and drinking his coffee. "what is up with my taste buds today?" he asks wrinkling his face up and Matt laughs and Alex takes a sip of her coffee.
"it's the vervain" he says causing Alex to quickly set down her cup and spit out her coffee as she feels the burning sensation inside her mouth.
"the what?" she spats as she coughs, putting her hands on the table to hold her up as she rests on the pool table. Alex took vervain everday, but only a small amount, so the heavy amount in the coffee still burned.
Matt laughs, "the sheriff has me slip it into the coffee here every now and then"
"that's what vervain tastes like?" Tyler asks and Matt nods.
"remind to never order coffee from here again" Alex grumbles and the boys laugh. "wait, is it in the liquor too?" she asks quickly with wide eyes. Alex loved her liquor.
"our liquor is vervain free" Matt says making Alex sigh resting a hand on her heart. Matt chuckles at the girl and walks away leaving Tyler and Alex back to their new game of pool, which Alex won of course.

as darkness covered the sky, Alex walked down the streets of downtown Mystic Falls, watching the people as they passed by, and admiring the new architecture around her. her phone suddenly rang, catching her by surprise, but the contact name caused her to huff in annoyance.
"you missed my first three calls. I was starting to wonder if you ditched me again," she spat at the person on the other end.
a female laugh was heard on the other end, "don't worry. everything is taken care of," she pauses, knowing the question ready to escape Alex's lips, "your little boys are fine, Alex, and they brought your sister back. she was so heartbroken that Steffie didn't remember her"
Alex rolls her eyes, "she'll get over it..." she starts to walk slower as she reaches her apartment building, "guess who I met today," she smirked.
"you were at the grill, so I'm guessing Matty blue eyes? God, he's hot"
"very. but I also met your little lookalike, Elena, who is very much alive, and her werewolf friend Tyler. all Lockwood's do have an attractive gene," Alex giggled, walking past the reception desk and towards the elevator. she pressed the number to her floor and leans against the wall with a grin.
"now wouldn't that be a shame if Klaus found out... the choice to come with me is still open. I'm sure we can find some more hotties on the road "
"I appreciate the offer, darling sister, but I kinda like the new Mystic Falls. I might stay for a while," the elevator dinged, signaling that she arrived at her floor, and she walked out towards her room.
"now who's ditching who?" the pout of the girl's face could practically be heard through the phone.
"I'm not ditching you. I have unfinished business to take care of. you understand, don't you?"
the girl sighs, but a smirk grows on her lips, "give the Salvatore's all my love"
Alex reaches her door, "goodbye, Katherine"
