Chapter66 +5Bonus = Menu After Kane left, having torn me down with his cruel words, I sat in bed staring out the window. My heart ached thinking about his accusations.
My only mistake was falling for him in the past. If I hadnât, I wouldnât be feeling this pain now.
I closed my eyes, trying to connect with my wolf, Dominic. She was furious with Kane, unable to believe he could treat his mate this way.
âDominic, letâs go home,â I told her.
She remained silent, her refusal to respond making it clear she disagreed. I understood her feelings for our mate all too well.
Thatâs the thing about being werewolves â we can feel our wolves, communicate with them, sense their emotions. Theyâre an integral part of who we are.
But I couldnât give in to her silent plea. I couldnât fulfill her wish to be with our mate.
The door creaking open interrupted my thoughts. I turned to see Nathan walking in.
âThank you again for saving me,â I said as he entered.
He approached with a gentle smile. âDonât mention it. Itâs my job,â he replied, holding out a plastic bag.
When I tried to reach for it, Nathan carefully stopped me. âDonât move your hand. Itâs still healing.â
He placed my hand back on my lap, opened the bag, and pulled out my phone.
âWe found this in your purse when they were rescuing your driver. Security protocol required us to check the contents.â
I glanced at the phone now resting in my lap. âHowâs my driver doing?â
âHeâs in critical condition. Severe head injury.â
My mouth fell open in shock. Was this my fault? I was the one who told him to drive faster. If I hadnât pushed him to speed up, would he be okay right now?
Nathan noticed my distress and patted my shoulder reassuringly. âDonât worry, Selene. Our pack has topânotch doctors. Heâll pull through. Itâll take time, but I promise heâll recover.â
His words brought some relief. âHow can I ever thank you enough?â
âFriends donât need thanks,â he said simply.
Before I could tell him what a good person he was, another voice came from the doorway.
âSelene.â
I turned to see my brother. âMagnus!â
He rushed to my side, worry etched on his face. Nathan stepped back and quietly closed the door.
Magnus wrapped me in a hug. Though the sudden movement sent a jolt of pain through my head, I didnât say anything. This was just how my brother showed his love.
âOh baby sis, what happened?â he asked.

âI donât know, Magnus. I was terrified.â
I let my tears fall freely. He pulled back to wipe them away.
âDonât worry. Youâll be back on your feet in no time.â
I nodded, then remembered something crucial. âMagnus, my scars...â
His brow furrowed at my words. His eyes went to my arm, covered by the hospital gown sleeve.
âWhat about them?â
âThey suddenly became visible,â I whispered.
He looked startled. For some reason, Magnus quickly glanced at Nathan, who seemed caught off guard by the sudden attention.
I could tell my brother didnât want to discuss this in front of others.
Nathan stepped forward, extending his hand to Magnus. âAlpha Magnus, Iâm Dr. Nathan, head physician of this pack. Itâs a pleasure to meet you.â
Magnus shook his hand. Nathan looked at me and added, âI know about your relationship. Selene told me about her family a few days ago. Sheâs lucky to have such a caring brother.â
Magnus brushed off the small talk. âHowâs her condition?â
âSheâll recover fully in about a week. Iâve given her strong medication to speed up the healing.â
After a pause, Magnus declared, âGet her discharge papers ready, Dr. Nathan.â
Nathan looked shocked. âBut she hasnât recovered yet. She needs a full week of bed rest for the medication to work properly.â
Magnus turned to me. âDo you want to stay here?â
I shook my head immediately. âNo.â
He faced Nathan again. âMy pack has capable doctors. They can continue her treatment when we get home.â
Though Nathan had no authority to override a family decision, I could tell he was concerned about my leaving so soon.
I tried to reassure him. âNathan, Iâll take good care of myself. Thank you for everything. Youâre truly a good person.â
Nathan stared at me for a moment before sighing. âI hope you recover quickly.â
I gave him a grateful smile and nodded. As he turned to leave and process my discharge papers, my brotherâs voice stopped him cold.
âI appreciate everything youâve done for my sister. But donât get your hopes up â make sure you stay just her friend, Dr. Nathan.â
