Chapter 55 Get 5 >
= Menu Kaneâs smirk faded as his eyes darkened. The young boyâs tone rubbed him the wrong way.
âI donât need your permission to be around her, kid,â Kane shot back.
âMy name is Leo, not âkid.â I warned you at the airport. So-â
âLeo, whoâre you talking to? Is that the handsome gentleman from earlier?â
A familiar voice cut Leo off. Kane instantly recognized itâLuna.
âLet me talk to him!â
Before Leo could protest, Luna had already snatched the phone away.
âHi, mister! Did you meet my mom?â
Her sweet voice caught Kane off guard. Something about talking to her felt... right, despite him never being much of a kid person.
Her voice conjured up images of her adorable face in his mind.
Trying to keep his voice gentle, he asked, âHow are you doing?â
âIâm good! How about you?â
âIâm fine. And yes, I did meet your mother. But why are you so excited about that?â
Luna paused for a moment, thinking. Glancing at her fuming brother, she lowered her voice.
âLeo doesnât like you. But I do. Youâre so handsome. Youâre just like-â
Kaneâs brow furrowed at her hesitation. âJust like what?â
âStay away from my mom and sister.â Leoâs voice cut in. Kane rolled his eyes. âKid, youâre talking way above your age. Watch your attitude. Did your mother teach you to be this rude?â
Leo fell silent. Just then, Kane heard the bathroom door open. His eyes landed on a figure in a white bathrobe that hugged every curve.
For a moment, Kane nearly lost his composure. Her scent filled the room, almost driving him crazy.
Selene froze at the sight of him in her room. She was about to yell when she noticed her phone in his hand.
âWhy do you have my phone? Who are you talking to?â She strode toward him.
Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Kane said to Leo, âYour momâs here. Talk to her.â

Selene snatched the phone away, pressing it to her ear. âMom, why is that man with you?â Leoâs worried voice came through.
Glaring at Kane, Selene replied, âWe just ran into each other. Donât worry, Leo. Like I taught you, your mom doesnât talk to strangers.â
âBut he said you were-â
âIâll call you back.â

Menu Selene abruptly ended the call and tossed her phone onto the bed.
âHow dare you touch my phone? And what are you doing in my room?â she demanded.
Kane didnât answer, his intense gaze fixed on Selene.
His stare made her uncomfortable. She backed up to the partially open door, standing beside it.
âAlpha Kane, you shouldnât be in a womanâs room like this. You need to leave.â
Kane approached her, stopping by the door.
âIâm curious about what you told your kids.â His voice dropped, anger seeping through. âIâm a stranger to you?â
âDrop the attitude. Iâm not your wife anymore. I wonât-â
Before she could finish, Kane grabbed her arms and pushed her against the door, slamming it shut.
Seleneâs eyes went wide. âWhatâs wrong with you?â
âWhy did you hurt her?â Kane demanded.
Selene couldnât help but let out a bitter laugh. She could see the rage in Kaneâs eyes. Was Ruby really that important to him?
âIâll hurt her again if she gets in my way. No one can stop me,â Selene said defiantly..
He moved closer, his hands sliding from her arms to her waist.
Her breath caught at their proximity. He leaned in, his voice low. âYou canât get over me, can you? Youâre blaming Ruby for everything just to get my attention back.â
She pressed her hands against his chest. âNo way. I hate you. You disgust me.â
Her words pushed Kane over the edge. His eyes turned dangerous as his temper flared for the second time.
âThose kidsâhow could you have them out of wedlock? Have you no shame?â
âDonât you dare talk about my children.â She shoved against his chest.
He grabbed both her hands, pinning them behind her back.
âDidnât you try to break her hand? Should I show you how that feels? What were you doing to her? What did you call me then?â
As Selene struggled against his powerful grip, her bathrobe loosened, slipping slightly from her sho ulders.
Kane froze at the sight. Years of buried desire threatened to break free.
