Chapter 54 Third Person Get 5 >
Menu A sleek black luxury car pulled up in front of an upscale villa. The driver stepped out and opened the back door.
âMiss Ruby, weâve arrived at your residence,â the driver announced.
Ruby sat in the backseat, turning toward Kane, who was staring out the window, cigarette in hand.
âKane, wonât you help me inside?â Ruby asked sweetly.
âYour legs work fine. Itâs your hand thatâs injured.â Kaneâs voice was iceâcold.
Ruby swallowed hard at his tone. Though Kane had bought her this house five years ago, heâd never once set foot inside â
something that would strike anyone as odd.
When she placed her left hand on his thigh, he paused midâsmoke. As he moved to push it away, his eyes fell on her bandaged right hand.
He slowly removed her hand and addressed his driver. âHelp her inside.â
Ruby pouted, shaking her head. âI hope youâre going to do something about Selene. Look how badly she hurt me.â
Kane took a long drag from his cigarette. âHmm. Sheâll need to be dealt with.â
Satisfied with his response, Ruby got out. When the driver moved to assist her, she waved him off with her good hand.
âShould I stay to make sure she gets in okay, Alpha?â the driver asked, glancing at Kane.
âNot necessary,â Kane muttered.
Once back behind the wheel, the driver asked, âWhere to, Alpha?â
Kaneâs eyes fixed on the moon above as he exhaled a cloud of smoke. âThe pack house.â
The driver found this puzzling. Despite his fatherâs illness, Kane usually only spent a few hours at the pack house, never staying overnight. Yet he hadnât returned to his apartment yesterday either.
Shrugging it off, the driver headed toward the pack house.
Kane seemed lost in thought, his expression unreadable.
By the time they reached the pack house, night had fallen. Kane remained in the car, chainâsmoking while deep in thought.
All day, heâd been fixated on Seleneâs behavior. This new version of her was nothing like the woman heâd known before.
A completely different side of her had emerged today.
Her attitude infuriated him. Heâd heard everything sheâd said to Ruby earlier, convinced she must be lying.
After several cigarettes, he finally went inside. The house was quiet, with everyone already in their rooms.

Menu The housekeepers bowed as he passed. He headed upstairs, anger burning inside him. Seleneâs actions demanded confrontation.
He stopped at her bedroom door, raising his hand to knock, but froze midâmotion. Instead, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
His wolf was holding him back, refusing to let him treat their mate harshly.
âStop getting in my way every damn time,â Kane growled at his wolf, stepping back from the door.
He turned and stormed into his own room, slamming the door. His thoughts were chaos, and it was all her fault!
The next morning, a phone call woke him. Beta Finnâs name lit up the screen.
âWhat?â Kane answered gruffly.
âWhy so grumpy, Alpha Kane?â
âYou woke me up.â
Finn chuckled. âWe have a pack meeting today. Donât tell me you forgot.â
Kane sat up, running his fingers through his hair. âCanât we cancel?â
âKane, youâve canceled every meeting for two days straight. Maybe keep your personal life separate from pack business?â
Getting out of bed, Kane pulled a suit from his closet while talking to his best friend.
âIâm coming,â he said before Finn hung up.
After showering and dressing, he left his room.
Passing Seleneâs door, he heard a phone ringing inside. He paused, surprised when no one answered.
He considered knocking, then simply turned the handle and went in.
The room was empty, but he heard the shower running. He spotted the ringing phone on the nightstand and picked it up, glancing toward the bathroom with a grimace.
âHow many guys are you talking to?â he muttered, answering the call.
âHello,â he said coldly.
A young boyâs voice responded, âWho are you?â
Kane smirked, recognizing the rude kid from the airport.
âLittle boy, we met at the airport.â
The childâs tone instantly turned hostile.
âWhy are you with my mommy? Stay away from her.â
