Chapter 50 Get 5 Menu I stared at Ruby with undisguised contempt. Did she really think her petty comments would get to me?
I wasnât the same pushover Selene from before. I could put her in her place if I wanted to, but what was the point? I was just a guest here, and starting drama with the Alphaâs girlfriend would only make me look desperate for his attention.
âI believe youâre forgetting something. Kane hasnât officially named you Luna of this pack,â Garrett pointed out.
Rubyâs face fell instantly. She opened her mouth to speak but thought better of it, dropping her head in a submissive nod.
âYouâre right, Garrett. Kane hasnât made me his Luna yet.
Diana turned away dismissively. âIf he hasnât done it by now, donât push it. Maybe heâs still unsure about you.â
Rubyâs head snapped up, tears streaming down her cheeks in what looked like genuine distress.
For a moment, I actually felt sorry for her. Kane had been with her for years now. If he really loved her like he claimed, why hadnât he made her Luna?
âWhatâs going on here?â A familiar voice cut through the tension.
Kane was coming down the stairs. He went straight to Ruby. âWhy are you crying?â
A thought struck me â had she spotted him coming down and turned on the waterworks for effect?
Ruby wiped her tears, clinging to Kaneâs arm. âItâs nothing. Uncle Garrett was just talking about me.â
Kaneâs gaze shifted from Ruby to his father, then landed on me. Something about his eyes reminded me of last night â that strange, red glow had been different somehow.
I looked away, wondering if his wolf had been in control then.
âDonât give us that attitude,â Garrett spoke up. âWe were discussing how you havenât made her Luna yet.â
Kane frowned at his father, then glanced my way before saying, âVery soon.â
Rubyâs eyes went wide â clearly, she hadnât expected that response. Her surprise quickly morphed into a warm smile.
Just then, Rubyâs driver rushed in, carrying a bouquet and fruit basket.
âMiss, I apologize for the delay. I forgot these in the car,â he said breathlessly.
âNo problem,â Ruby said, taking them from him.
She presented the flowers to Garrett. âI heard you like these.â
Then she set the fruit basket on the coffee table. âAnd some fresh fruit to help with your recovery.â
Garrett accepted the bouquet without comment. Some maids appeared to announce breakfast was ready.
âLetâs eat,â Garrett said.

Menu As I passed Kane, I felt his eyes on me but kept walking, focused on helping Garrett to the dining ro om.
I took the same seat as last nightâs dinner, across from Garrett and Diana.
âMay I review your prescriptions after breakfast?â
âOf course,â he agreed.
âWhy bother? Itâs not like youâd understand them anyway.â Rubyâs voice dripped with disdain as she entered with Kane.
To my surprise, Kane took the head chair to my right. Iâd always seen Garrett sit on the left during our family dinners years ago, so Iâd assumed Kane would take that spot.
Ruby marched up to me. âWhy are you sitting there? Thatâs my seat. Or did you forget youâre not Kaneâs wife anymore?â
I started to get up, struggling to find a response, but Kane cut in.
âItâs fine, Ruby. Take the other seat.â
D I turned to him, shocked, but he was already eating, avoiding my gaze.
Ruby stood there, stunned, until Diana spoke up. âWhy are you still standing? Sit down. Seleneâs our guest she can sit wherever she likes.â
âYâyes, Aunt Diana,â Ruby mumbled, sinking into the chair beside me.
When Diana started to spread peanut butter on bread for Garrett, I quickly spoke up. âDiana, wait â he has a nut allergy. Itâs in his medical records.â
Everyone stared at me. Kane raised an eyebrow. âHow do you know that?â
âI checked his medical files.â
âWhy were you looking at those?â
âI wanted to review them.â
Rubyâs laugh was sharp and mocking. âHow stupid! Everyone knows you dropped out after getting married. How could you possibly understand medical records?â
Ruby kept throwing insults my way until Dianaâs glare shut her up. She ducked her head, playing the r ole of the perfect, obedient future daughterâinâlaw.
That did it. My resolution to avoid bringing up the past went out the window. I turned to Ruby, finally ready to expose her true nature.
âTime to show everyone who you really are,â I thought, giving her a sweet smile.
âSince youâre so chatty, letâs discuss my conversation with my foster father.â
âWhat are you talking about?â Her voice trembled slightly.
âDonât play dumb. I still have the message you sent me.â
