Chapter 46 The car pulled into the parking lot of a fiveâstar hotel. The driver rushed to open my door and help me out.
I thanked him and told him to book a room for himself too. To ease his mind, I promised Iâd take full responsibility for whatever happened.
The driver nodded, and I walked into the hotel, taking in my surroundings.
The Nightfall Pack clearly knew their hospitality business. They had several highâend hotels like this one scattered around. From what I could tell, it was a popular spot for Alphas to blow off steam.
People watched me as I made my way to the lobby. I approached the front desk to check in.
âMaâam, whatâs your preference? Forest view? Poolside? Penthouse, or-âI cut the receptionist off mid- sentence. âAny room is fine. Just make sure itâs private. I donât want to be bothered by anyone, especially not men.â
The receptionist looked taken aback but nodded while checking her computer. She asked for my details as she typed away.
I gave her my phone number and let her scan my fingerprint. Once everything was squared away, she handed me my key card.
I took it and headed up to my room. First order of business; a hot bath.
I let myself relax in the tub, resting my head back on the cushioned edge with my eyes closed.
Kaneâs face suddenly popped into my head. His questions about my kids today had me worried heâd -figure out the truth soon.
My phoneâs ringtone snapped me back to reality.
1 Right Axel had told me to keep the sound on.
In my rush to get out of the water, I banged my right hand against the tubâs edge.
I rubbed it gently as I carefully stood up.
Looking at my right arm â the constant reminder of Kane Thorne.
I pushed the thought away and wrapped myself in a towel. As I was drying my hair, I stepped out of the bathroom just as my phone started ringing again.
I hurried to answer it. One glance at the screen showed Magnus calling repeatedly.
Dad must have talked to him. I answered and held the phone to my ear.
âWhat were you thinking agreeing to something so stupid?â Magnusâs voice boomed through the room even without speakerphone.
âMagnus.â
âHave you lost your mind? You didnât even think twice before giving in to Alpha Garrett. Thereâs no way Iâm letting you stay there.â
âMagnus, please. Dad understands why I need to do this.â
âYou always do this. Whenever you want to do something I donât agree with, you run to Dad first to get #)12.09 45.49%
= Menu As my brother, he felt responsible for protecting me. After what Kane did, he couldnât stand the thought of me getting hurt again.
âIâm coming to get you out of there. They donât deserve your help.â
âMagnus, donât. We canât risk starting a pack war. Itâll only create more problems. I didnât come here to cause trouble â that would just make things worse for everyone.â
I tried my best to reason with him. I knew my brother. If he showed up here, heâd try to kill Kane for sure.
âFine, Selene. If thatâs what you want, Iâll stay out of it. But I want you to know I think youâre making a huge mistake.â
He hung up, clearly upset.
I stared at my phone screen for a moment.
âMagnus, Iâm sorry,â I whispered.
I was about to call my kids â I hadnât talked to them all day â when someone knocked on the door.
I paused, looking at it. âProbably room service,â I thought.
I quickly changed back into my clothes from earlier, then went to answer it.
Instead of hotel staff, I found a young man standing there.
âYes?â I asked.
He definitely wasnât hotel personnel.
âMs. Selene, Alpha Garrett sent me. Iâm Marcus Reed, the packâs delta.â
âHi, Delta Marcus. Mind telling me why youâre here and how you found my room number?â
âWeâre pack officials,â he said with a slight laugh. âNothing stays hidden from us.â
âWhat happened to privacy?â I asked, incredulous.
âSince anyone could be a threat, the head Alpha has authority to override privacy concerns. You never know who might be dangerous.â
I rolled my eyes. Kaneâs officials were just like him!
âBut you said Garrett sent you, not your head Alpha.â
âYeah, but Iâm still one of the head Alphaâs official wolves. Finding your room wasnât exactly challenging.â
âSo, Delta Marcus, what can I do for you?â
He gave me a friendly smile before saying, âAlpha Garrett wants you to stay at the pack house.â
