Menu I turned toward the door and saw him- the powerful figure stepping into the room.
His customâtailored suit and perfectly styled hair screamed authority. His face was cold as always, those sharp eyes scanning the room until they landed on me.
My wolf stirred at his gaze. I quickly looked away, focusing back on Alpha Garrett.
âI thought you were busy today. What brings you here?â Kaneâs mother asked.
âYou donât sound happy to see me,â he replied coldly.
I almost snorted out loud but caught myself. This guy couldnât even have a normal conversation with his parents. He was just...
something else.
Now that he was head Alpha, I wondered if his parents had to follow his orders too.
âYou rarely visit your father. Thatâs why your motherâs asking,â Alpha Garrett said, looking at his son.
Beta Finn walked in just then, greeting Kaneâs parents.
âThe meeting got canceled, so Alpha was free today,â Beta Finn explained to Diana.
That caught me off guard. Hadnât Beta Finn just told the receptionist Kane was in a meeting?
Why lie about the meeting being canceled? And how did they get here so fast? Sure, his company was close to the pack hospital, but still... I pushed these thoughts aside. I realized I still hadnât given Alpha Garrett his flowers.
Diana seemed to read my mind. She grabbed the bouquet and handed it to me. I smiled at her and presented it to Alpha Garrett.
âThis is for you, Alpha.â
He slowly released my hand to take the flowers. When he tried to sit up, Diana and I helped him.
Diana gestured for me to take the stool. I sat down to talk with Alpha Garrett.
Meanwhile, Kane made his way to one of the couches on the right side of the bed.
The room was huge â big enough for meetings, with several couches scattered around. There was a large closet and various medical equipment near the bed.
I snuck a quick look at Kane, who sat directly across from me. He was watching me too, looking surprised, as if he hadnât expected me to show up this early.
âWhen did you get here?â he asked.
I looked away. âJust now.â
Everyone else went quiet as we spoke.
Alpha Garrett cleared his throat. âDear, who told you about my condition?â
Something felt off. It seemed like he didnât even know I was coming. I frowned and looked at Kane. Hadnât he said his father wouldnât take his meds unless I visited?
As if reading my thoughts, Kane turned to his father. âDidnât you want to see her? Thatâs why I called her here.â

Menu His father paused before nodding slowly. âYes... yes, heâs right. Iâve been talking about you.â
I couldnât help myself. âHe told me you were refusing to take your medicine until you saw me.
Alpha Garrett raised an eyebrow at his son. Kaneâs face stayed calm, but he wouldnât meet his fatherâs eyes.
âYou told her that?â Diana asked.
Alpha Garrett chuckled and nodded. âHeâs right. I have so many things to tell you. Didnât want to die before saying them.â
âAlpha,â I protested, shaking my head at the mention of death.
âJust call me Dad-â he paused, giving his son a bitter look. âWell, someone took away that right. Just call me Garrett.â
I lowered my head. âOkay... Garrett.â
âIâm not the packâs Alpha anymore â Iâm retired. All I want is to enjoy life with my family.â
I looked up at him with a smile. âDonât worry. Youâll get better soon and have plenty of happy times ahead.â
He shook his head. âAt my age, I thought Iâd have grandchildren keeping me and Diana company. But who can make this foolish man understand what it means to be a parent?â
My heart ached. Even if he had grandchildren, I couldnât let them meet him. The pain was unbearable.
I wanted to spend the whole day with Garrett and Diana, but Kane wouldnât let me have peace. He cut in with a mocking tone, âDad, you want to teach me about being a parent? But some people have babies and still treat them like theyâre some kind of sin!â
