Chapter 230 Jet 5*
Menu It was late when I finally headed home. I hadnât gone back to the pack houseâI was waiting for her.
As my driver pulled up in front of my house, I noticed another car already parked outside. From the window, I could see its silhouette under the dim glow of the streetlights.
Before my driver could step out to open my door, another figure suddenly appeared in front of the car. She hurried toward the back seat, yanking the door open herself.
Her desperate eyes locked onto mine as I stepped out.
âRuby.â
She slammed the door shut with force, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.
âWhat the hell is going on, Kane?â
I didnât answer. Instead, I turned toward the house, walking past her as if the conversation wasnât worth having.
She followed closely behind, her heels clicking against the pavement, and then abruptly stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
âNo, Kane. Youâre not ignoring me this time. You owe me an answer.â
I met her gaze, seeing nothing but anger swirling in her eyes. Without a word, I grabbed her arm and moved her aside.
âI donât have time for this,â I muttered. âNot now.â
As I pulled out my house key, she seized my wrist, her grip surprisingly strong.
âHow could you do this to me, Kane? How could you cheat on me?â
I turned my head toward her, already exhaling a sigh.
âRub-â
âNo, Kane,â she cut me off sharply. âIâm not stupid. Everyone saw you pulling Selene into your office. And why was she even there? Why canât she just stay out of our lives? The moment I tried to talk to your parents about our marriage, she conveniently showed upâwith her damn kids.â
My jaw tensed, my gaze darkening.
âTheyâre my children too,â I said, my voice low.
Her fingers trembled slightly around my wrist. She averted her eyes, her expression faltering.
âIâI didnât mean to upset you,â she whispered. âBut why are you doing this? Why are you breaking my heart?â
Tears welled up in her eyes. I sighed, my anger dimming. I didnât want her to be afraid of me.
Gently, I placed my hand over hers, prying her fingers from my wrist.
âIâm not a good man, Ruby,â I said quietly. âYou deserve someone better.â

< Chapter 230 She snapped her head up, eyes wide in disbelief.
âWâWhat are you saying?â
I inhaled deeply before delivering the final blow.
âRuby, itâs over. Weâre breaking up.â
Her entire body tensed. She jerked her hand away as if burned, stepping back as tears streaked down her cheeks.
âIâve loved you for years, Kane,â she choked out. âHow can you just change your mind? Is it because sh e came back?â
I didnât answer. There was no point in denying it. If she thought Selene was the reason, she wasnât wrong.
She let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head.
âPeople say youâre ruthless, but youâve never been cruel to me. Not until now. What happened to you, Kane? Why are you forcing me to see you as heartless? Have you really forgotten everything I did for you when we were kids?â
My grip tightened around the key, the sharp edge digging into my palm.
I knew what I was doing. I knew I was betraying the girl who had once saved my lifeâthe one who had been there when no one else was. She was my savior. But keeping her tied to me would only ensure her misery. She deserved more than this oneâsided relationship.
She took a shaky breath, her voice breaking.
âIs it just because sheâs the mother of your children? If thatâs all it is, then IâI can be a good mo-â
She stopped midâsentence, her eyes widening as I interrupted her.
âItâs because I love her.â
