Chapter 116 The atmosphere grew colder. My brotherâs response caught me off guard. When a head Alpha expressed a desire to stay at a pack house, it was typically considered an honor.
Meny I doubted anyone had ever rejected an Alpha in such a manner before. In fact, I had never seen my brother show outright disdain toward any Alpha.
But this man wasnât just an Alpha from another packâhe was also the one who had once treated this packâs Alphaâs sister terribly.
How could Kane act like the past never happened? Like his mistakes didnât exist?
What made him think Magnus would simply overlook everything and agree to an alliance? Was he even serious?
âHow can you speak to an Alpha like that-â Kane raised a hand, stopping his Gamma from lashing out at Magnus in outrage. His Gamma, clearly furious, struggled to tolerate another Alpha showing such blatant disrespect toward his own leader.
nus to Kane steadied himself, locking eyes with Magnus. It was obvious he hadnât expected Magnus refuse his request to stay.
Beta Finn shook his head and spoke with forced politeness, âAlpha Magnus, we respect you. But you canât treat our Alpha in such a disrespectful manner. If you ever change your mind, weâll be waiting.
I noticed the defensive edge in Finnâs toneâhe was ready to stand up for his Alpha.
âItâs fine. Alpha Magnus has the right to make his own decisions. Thereâs nothing I can do about it,â Kane finally said.
Magnus gave a slight nod. âIâm glad Alpha Kane understands. I can arrange a tour for you to show my hospitality.â
âNo, thatâs not why I came here early,â Kane replied.
Magnus narrowed his eyes. âThen whatâs your reason?â
Kaneâs behavior left me unsettled. I studied him closely, trying to read his expression.
Nothing. His cold gaze revealed nothing. Even though I knew he had to be angry, he kept his voice. steady, his emotions tightly controlled.
e even want a an I wasnât hoping for him to argue with my brother, but what was he after? Why did he alliance with us? Werenât we supposed to be rival packs?
His eyes met mine briefly before he turned back to Magnus and said, âI have my own reasons for being here.â
I held his gaze, silently conveying the hostility I felt toward him.
âWhat do you mean?â Magnus asked, his tone icy as he noticed Kane looking at me.
âNothing.â Kane replied casually. Then, shifting his attention fully to Magnus, he added, âI heard youâre arranging a marriage for your sister.â
My eyes narrowed. âMarriage?â
Kane nodded. âYeah, thatâs what Beta Axel was saying. I figured Iâd ask your brother directly.â
131722 < Chapter 116 âWith whom?â
âWith Beta Axel, of course.â
Get 5 Menu I turned to Axel, who lowered his head. Hadnât I already refused my brotherâs proposal? Then why had Axel told others something different?
Axel glanced at Kane, who raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips.
âYour Beta lies a lot, Alpha Magnus. I thought I should let you know.â
Magnus remained unfazed. âAxel wasnât lying. But I donât see why this concerns youâit has nothing to do with you.â
I tilted my head, watching him.
âSo, youâre saying youâre marrying her off without her consent?â Kane asked, his voice sharp with anger.
âWho said anything about no consent? Didnât you hear them talking earlier? Theyâre close and happy together.â
Kane turned his gaze to me, as if waiting for me to deny it.
Even though my brother was lying, I wasnât about to contradict him in front of Kane.
I remained silent, sitting calmly.
âGreat,â Kane muttered under his breath.
âYeah, itâs great news,â Magnus shot back, -A few maids approached Magnus and bowed.
âAlpha, lunch has been served.â
Magnus stood up and turned to Kane. âYou wanted hospitality. Letâs have lunch togetherâthatâs part of it, too.â
Without waiting for a response, Magnus strode toward the dining room, his officialsâincluding Axel- following close behind.
Kane stood as well but shook his head. âIâm not interested. Iâm done here. See you at tomorrowâs meeting, Alpha Magnus.â
Magnus didnât even glance back, as if he had expected Kane to refuse.
âAs you wish, Alpha Kane.â
I noticed Axel turn his head slightly to look at me, but I was still angry with him. I had no intention of joining them for lunch, though I knew Magnus would summon me if he noticed my absence.
And, sure enough, my brother didnât miss a beat.
âSelene, come with me. You didnât eat anything this morning,â Magnus called back before disappearing into the dining room.
âYâYes, Magnus,â I murmured.
After watching my brother and his officials leave the room, I got to my feet. My gaze drifted to Kane, who was staring directly at me.

I ignored him Manu as I made my way toward the dining room. But before I could pass, he stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
âWhat was that about?â he demanded. âAre you really with Beta Axel?â
I rolled my eyes. âHow many times do I have to say it? Yes, Iâm with him. Why do you even care? Everyone knows Axel and I are together.â
His glare darkened. âI thought you were lying to me.â
Why w âYou-â
I?â
âKane, letâs go. We need to handle some paperwork,â Beta Finn interrupted, patting Kaneâs shoulder.
Kane turned his head sharply, his expression dark and unreadable.
âWait outside,â he ordered coldly, Finn hesitated for a moment, glancing at me before nodding. âAlright, Alpha.â
I could tell from Finnâs expression that Kaneâs tone had stung. It wasnât easy to be spoken to like that- especially in front of an outsider like me.
Finn and the other three officials exited the pack house.
I crossed my arms, glaring at Kane. âWhy did you talk to him like that? Heâs your Beta, not your slave.â
Kane took a step closer, forcing me to step back.
âCall off the marriage.â
âWhat?â
âI said, cancel it. Reject that man.â His voice was low, but the intensity in his eyes made it feel like a command.
I opened my mouth to argue, but before I could say anything, a small voice interrupted us.
âUncle! Youâre here!â
I turned around.
A little distance away, Luna stood with Leo beside her.
Leoâs tiny finger pointed accusingly at Kane, his expression full of childish anger.
âMommy, why is he here?â
