Chapter 1010 I Would Be Crying Joseph simply smiled. âMaybe she didnât see you.â
The truth was, human relationships were superficial. Now that James was in trouble, his acquaintances feared they would face the same fate if they got too close to the Field family.
The world was a cruel place, and Joseph had foreseen something like this to happen.
âDonât think too much about it, Mom. Letâs go shopping,â Charlotte comforted Fae.
Thankfully, Charlotteâs words sent a warm feeling into Faeâs heart. âYouâre such a thoughtful sweetheart.â
With that, the trio arrived at the mall. The first floor sold phones and jewelry.
âMom, letâs get you an iPhone twelve. It was just released,â suggested Joseph as he approached the store. âWhat about a red one? Apparently, it brings good luck.â
âTsk. Iâm already way past that age for such a striking color. Thatâs for young ladies.â Fae chuckled and hit him lightly.
Charlotte, too, glared at him, saying, âObviously white and black suit her better.â
Suddenly, a sarcastic voice rang out from a distance. âOh! I was wondering who this was over here.
Turns out itâs the renowned Mrs. Field.â
The voice attracted their attention. Frowning, Fae glanced over and spotted Kate, who was dressed to the nines.
The latter held a limited-edition bag as she walked over with her high heels clicking against the ground.
After scanning Fae from head to toe, Kate sneered, âThis is interesting. I canât believe you still have the mood to shop for a new phone here.â
âWhy wouldnât I have the mood to shop for a phone? Mrs. Fraser, I donât think thereâs much for us to talk about, so please donât disturb my shopping session.â Fae cast Kate an icy glance before retracting her gaze.
The look of gloat on Kateâs face made Josephâs heart lurch with dread. He quickly took his motherâs hand and said, âCome on, Mom. Letâs check out another store.â
âYep. Letâs go.â Charlotte, too, took Faeâs hand. The former felt uncomfortable seeing Kate there.
âWhy are you leaving? Hah. Looks like you just fend for yourself when your partnerâs in trouble.â Kate stepped forward to block their path.
She was feeling extremely triumphant as if she had gotten her revenge. Even the excitement and disdain in her gaze were palpable to everyone in the mall.
âWhat do you want?â Fae knew Kate was implying something, and it made the former feel uncomfortable.
Kateâs smile only grew smugger. âNothing. I just pity Mr. Field. Tsk, tsk, tsk.â
âWhy would you bring James up all of a sudden? What makes you think you can talk about him so casually?â Fae glared at the woman impatiently.
However, Kate gaped dramatically, which was disgusting behavior.
She then purposely raised her voice to another pitch as she said, âEveryone knows Mr. Field has been arrested for an investigation. If I were you, Iâd be too ashamed to appear in public. Iâd be crying all day at home.â
The look on Faeâs face stiffened as she stood there in a daze.
The revelation left her feeling as if she had been struck by lightning.
Faeâs body shook, and her eyes widened with disbelief as she stared at Kateâs annoying face. âWhat did you say?â Even her voice was trembling.
Kate eyed Fae with shock. âOh my goodness! Donât tell me you have no idea.â
The formerâs smile widened and excitement bubbled within her as if James were sentenced to a horrifying punishment.
In fact, she almost broke out into a dance. Her tone was laced with satisfaction when she said, âMr.
Fieldâs been arrested. The police chief personally arrested Mr. Field this morning. Goodness. I donât understand how you three can still go on a shopping spree when heâs been arrested. How ungratefulâ¦â
Faeâs mind went blank as she watched Kate explain everything with dramatic gestures. There was only one thought running through the formerâs mind. James has been arrested. Heâs been arrestedâ¦
