âItâs nothing. I just missed you too much,â replied Penelope. She acted as though she was reluctant to share her story because it would trouble Bianca. âDonât overthink this, Granny. Itâs nothing. Really.â
The more she behaved like this, the more Bianca grew curious. âReally? You can tell me. Did your uncle treat you poorly? Oh, Iâm so going to scold him.â
âNo, thatâs not it. Itâs justâ¦â Penelope became even more teary-eyed. âI⦠Granny, I didnât want to tell you about this because I didnât want to worry you, but itâs actually about Ashlyn. You remember, right?
Sheâs the woman I talked to you about before. Itâs all her fault.â
Between sobs, Penelope told Bianca a modified version of what had happened at the piano competition in H Nation.
The former made everything seem so intense and painted herself as the innocent bystander who was ever so pitiful. She made Mary and herself out to be the worldâs unluckiest and saddest women there was.
Ashlyn, on the other hand, was made out to be the absurd villain who lived only to derive her happiness from Penelope and Maryâs misery.
Biancaâs heart ached as she patted Penelopeâs hand. âYou should go take a rest first. Donât worry. Iâm not the kind of person who would let injustice like that happen. I canât believe that a simple trip back would bring you and your mom so much pain and misery. You have both suffered for no reason. Ah! Iâm so angry! Iâll call your uncle right now and scold him!â
Hearing that, Penelope bit her lip a little as a hint of panic flashed past her eyes. Shoot, if she makes that call, my lies would be exposed.
At that thought, Penelope immediately replied, âThereâs no need for that, Granny. Uncle Ryan tried to protect me and Mom, but Ashlyn is the wife of the CEO of Nolan Group. Sheâs too powerful, so itâs not Uncle Ryanâs fault that he couldnât protect us. Please donât call him and put even more pressure on his shoulders.â
âMy sweet Penelope, youâre so kind. Okay, I wonât call him if thatâs what you wish,â replied Bianca. A glint flashed past her eyes as she put her phone away.
âThen I wonât bother you anymore, Granny. I better head back to my room now,â said Penelope who left immediately after.
The kind smile on Bianca slowly turned into a scowl, and anger seeped out of her eyes.
âThat kid is so ridiculous. Does she really think I wonât see through her tricks? She truly has countless bad habits.â
Biancaâs voice carried a hint of disappointment, and the tone she used frightened Matilda a little. âMrs.
Yates, youâ¦â
âI may be getting old, but that doesnât mean she can fool me. She made herself out to be so pitiful, yet she didnât want me to call Ryan?â
âAre you saying something about the situation is fishy?â Matilda immediately got what was going on.
Matilda had been working for the Yates family for decades, but she had always found Mary and Penelope did not belong to the family.
Almost every hired help was mad at them but was too afraid to complain. Mary and Penelope would deliberately make things difficult for them.
âSend someone to investigate the matter and tell me the truth,â ordered Bianca. She was never the kind of person who would blindly believe anything anyone told her. If she was, the Yates family would not have grown to be so strong in Maredania, nor would its powers be that deeply rooted.
âUnderstood,â replied Matilda before leaving to work on the task right away.
Just as Matilda left, Ryan called. âMom, have the two of them reached home?â
âYeah,â replied Bianca calmly. âWhen will you be home?â
âI will definitely be home for your birthday, but I need to work on some minor issues here for now.
Please have Dad or Matilda plan the party for you,â said Ryan. He had always been a good son, so he felt a little guilty because he could not plan Biancaâs birthday party in person.
Still, the mere thought of Mary and Penelope made him feel the urgent need to prove what he suspected. Hence, he could not return home just yet.
âItâs fine. Focus on your work and be careful out there, okay?â said Bianca. She was not the type of mother who would demand her kids stay by her side at all times.
At the time, there were still ten days before it was Biancaâs birthday.
In the meantime, after the production of âTrashy Idolâ was done, the marketing effort began right away.
Every social media and website was advertising the movie endlessly.
