Nana? Where are you? I'm back from the trip—"  A wave of exhaustion washed over Y/n as she stepped through the door, the scent of dust and old books hitting her immediately.  She felt a heavy weight settle on her, a familiar pressure, and a soft groan escaped her lips.  The familiar weight of Nana's body, coiled around her legs, was a comforting presence.

"What took you so long?" Nana's voice, a low, melodious whisper, held a hint of needy desperation.  Y/n could feel the shift of scales against her skin as Nana tightened her embrace.  The cool, smooth texture of her scales was a stark contrast to the warmth of Y/n's skin, a comforting sensation that always calmed her nerves.  Y/n sighed, a soft sound of relief and affection, and smiled gently, her fingers trailing over Nana's beautiful, inky black scales.  Each scale felt like polished obsidian, reflecting the dim light of the hallway.

"I missed you so much while I was on that trip," Y/n murmured, cupping Nana's cheek in her hand.  The skin was surprisingly warm beneath her touch, a pleasant contrast to the cool scales.  Nana's usual playful grin faltered, replaced by a sad pout that tugged at Y/n's heart.  Those large, intelligent eyes, usually sparkling with mischief, were now filled with a longing that mirrored her own.  They held a depth of emotion that surprised Y/n sometimes, a silent understanding that transcended words.

"I kinda wish I could have brought you," Y/n whispered, her voice thick with emotion.  The thought of leaving Nana behind always gnawed at her conscience. The image of Nana alone in the quiet house, waiting patiently, filled her with guilt.  She gently stroked Nana's head, the movement soothing both of them.

Nana nestled closer, her scaled body wrapping around Y/n like a warm, comforting blanket.  The scent of earth and old paper mingled with a faint, musky scent that was uniquely Nana.  Y/n inhaled deeply, the familiar aroma easing the tension in her shoulders.

"I'm sure this is the last trip I'll be going on for work," Y/n said, her voice firm but gentle.  She stroked Nana's hair, the smooth scales a calming sensation beneath her fingertips.  "I won't leave you again, okay?"  The promise hung in the air, a silent pact between them, a bond forged in mutual love and unwavering loyalty.  They remained there for a long while, the silence filled with unspoken affection, the weight of Nana's body a comforting anchor in Y/n's arms.
