Luther's gaze lingered on Y/n, a familiar warmth spreading through him. He'd known her since high school, their study sessions a comfortable rhythm in his life. More than comfortable, actually. He harbored a particular fondness for her, a feeling that went beyond friendship. But the thought of voicing his feelings sent a shiver of apprehension down his spine. The risk of awkwardness loomed large; the possibility of Y/n avoiding him altogether was a terrifying prospect. He clutched his teacup, his wide eyes betraying the turmoil within, his lips pressed into a thin line. The unspoken words, heavy with unspoken emotion, hung between them, a silent testament to his internal struggle. He wanted to tell her, to confess the depth of his affection, but fear held him captive.
The weight of his secret felt heavier now, knowing his younger brother, Randal, had known Y/n since infancy. And his catmen... he wasn't sure how they felt about her. Their initial meetings hadn't exactly been smooth sailing. He watched as Y/n delicately held her teacup, her smile warm and genuine as she complimented his choice of tea. The simple compliment, a small gesture, eased the tension in his chest, a tiny crack in the wall of his apprehension. His lips still pressed together, his eyes still wide, but the nod he gave her was heartfelt, a silent acknowledgment of his gratitude for her words, a small victory in the battle raging within him.
Even though she knew he wasn't entirely human, she'd stayed by his side all this time. The thought struck him with the force of a revelation. Gosh, it had been a long time. Her unwavering acceptance, her steadfast presence in his life, despite his otherness, was a testament to the depth of their connection. It was a silent affirmation of the bond they shared, a bond that transcended the boundaries of the ordinary. This realization only intensified his internal conflict, the desire to confess his feelings battling with the fear of jeopardizing their unique and precious friendship.
"You're very quiet lately," Y/n observed, her voice soft but perceptive. "I know something's bothering you, you know, Luther." She hummed softly, her gaze locking with his as he finally turned his head to meet her eyes. A beat of silence hung between them before he spoke, his voice low and serious. "At this moment, my mind is deeply immersed in contemplation," he began, his words carefully chosen, "but there is something I feel compelled to share with you." The intensity of his gaze, the gravity of his tone.
He finally spoke, his gaze unwavering as he looked into her eyes. "Ever since high school," he began, his voice a little shaky, "I've felt a strong pull towards you, a feeling I struggled to express. But in your presence... I feel a warmth, a comfort like nothing else. Despite my uncertainty, I find myself wanting to be with you... romantically. For as long as forever lasts." He paused, taking a deep breath, a nervous flutter in his chest. "I'm not quite sure how to say this," he confessed, a hint of shyness coloring his tone, "but I feel it in my heart... in my very soul." The vulnerability in his confession was profound, his nervousness endearing, laying bare the depth of his affection.
Silence descended again, broken only by the soft clinking sound as Y/n lowered her teacup. Luther rose, placing his own cup down with a gentle clink. "I hope you don't feel pressured by my words," he said softly, his gaze dropping to the floor. "Because my feelings for you... they're just a natural part of who I am. Your presence brings me happiness, comfort... sharing these moments with you is special." He looked up, a slight tremor in his voice. "I want you to know how I feel, without any expectation. Just because it's true. No need to reciprocate, or feel any pressure... I just... I just wanted to express my heart's truth to you." His cheeks flushed a delicate pink, his embarrassment palpable, a testament to his vulnerability and the sincerity of his confession.
Her words struck him like a bolt of lightning, the soft "I like you also" echoing in the quiet room. The clink of her teacup on the table was a sharp counterpoint to the sudden rush of joy that flooded through him. She stood, and he saw the flicker of sadness in her eyes, a hint of the battles she'd fought to be with him. "I... I liked you since high school," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. "Even though everyone told me to stay away... I still wanted to be with you. It's my choice. I thought you wouldn't like me back... since I'm just a human..." Her gaze drifted away, but he was there, his shadow falling over her as he gently took her hand, his eyes meeting hers.
"I had no idea you felt that way," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "And I'm truly touched by your courage... to follow your heart despite what others said. Your being human... it doesn't matter to me. What matters is the connection we share, the happiness we find in each other's company. Your choice to be with me... it's more than I could have hoped for. And I'm honored... honored to have someone as strong and true as you by my side." His gaze held hers, a silent promise of a future share.
Their gaze locked, a silent conversation passing between them, a world of unspoken emotions swirling in the space between their hands. Then, a loud, screeching sound shattered the spell. Both Luther and Y/n whipped their heads around to find the source of the disruption - Randal and his catmen, their faces a mixture of surprise and sheepish grins, caught red-handed in the act of eavesdropping. The romantic moment, so intensely private just a second before, was suddenly, hilariously, public.
I was gonna make them kiss but.......... No.
