Chapter 2: I

Rumours [BxB] ✔️Words: 9958

"River Skyter, pay attention when I'm speaking!"

I was snapped back into reality by the horrible, screechy voice of my fifth period History teacher. Her eyes were focused directly at me, but I still began looking around, convinced there just had to be another person going by the name River Skyter sat right near me who she was talking to.

However, when I heard her snarky voice again, I realised it actually was me she was aiming her deadly glares at.

"Yes, I am talking to you," she began, and the entire class erupted into small giggles and sniggers, "Now tell me, what was I just talking about?"

My face paled and my eyes grew wide when I saw Lila turn around, along with every other student, yet she began making hand signals.

"E-erm... a boat! Wait, no. A catapult and a bird. I mean-! A microphone, wait a middle finger sticking up- Oh...." I stuttered, realising what was happening after trying to read Lilas hand movements while also attempting to make it seem like I was actually recalling what happened from my own brain.

"That's it, detention after school until four thirty. M4 straight after class, and don't miss it." She spoke harshly and I muttered curses under my breath, rolling my eyes.

I looked up at Lila and she slapped her forehead before giving me a glare which radiated the message, 'You idiot.'

Well this is just great, now I have a detention and I'm going to miss out on ice cream with Harry and Lila.

I mentally scalded myself while thinking of my two best friends enjoying a nice cone of chocolate... or vanilla, or mint or strawberry or raspberry or-

Now I'm just sadder than I was before.

The bell signalling the end of class rang through the hallways before I knew it, and I quickly gathered together my stuff before shoving it in my black backpack.

I hurried out the door only to be met with a smack to the chest and a flick to my forehead.

"Ow?" I exclaimed, placing a hand over the aching patch on my head, sending the two laughing idiots in front of me death glares.

"Looks like the trio in crime has dwindled to the duo in crime." Harry teased and I felt a wave of anger rush over me.

"Oh for god sake! You have to say the partners in crime, not the duo in crime you asshat. I sometimes have to spend a whole five or more minutes contemplating how in the name of god you were the sperm that won." I folded my arms over my chest before beginning to strut off towards the detention room.

"Good one Rivvy." Lila laughed boldly, giving me a high five.

"Hey! You're meant to be on my side!" Harry complained, eyebrows furrowed, before stumbling after us.

I sighed as we arrived outside M4 and turned to face them. "I'll see you guys later, so don't have too much fun without me and please don't break someone's wing mirror like last time." I rolled my eyes dramatically before winking at them.

"What? You were the one who brok-" Her voice was cut short as I slammed the detention room door shut in their faces.

Chuckling under my breath, I sauntered over to a seat near the back of the class and sat down, whipping my notebook out along with a pencil.

This is going to be a long hour.

When I heard the door creak open and clatter shut again, I didn't even bother to look up as I knew it would be Mrs Scott entering the silent room. However, I was met with a smug voice, which I was far too familiar with, and it echoed through the room.

You have got to be kidding me.

"Hey there Sky."

His voice annoyed me, his face annoyed me, his body annoyed me, and his personality annoyed me.

Not a single thing about him was tolerable.

"Hey Ash, how's your ugly ass self doing on this fine day- well, fine until I saw you." I greeted with a fake smile.

He chuckled and leant back in the chair right beside mine, posture relaxed and facing towards me. "I'm doing quite well." He replied and all I could do was stare at my intertwined hands laid on my lap. That was before he began to throw up more useless words.

"There's a party at Alec's tomorrow, you comin'?" He questioned, head tilting to the side slightly.

I raised an eyebrow before letting out a loud and short laugh. "Yeah no, I'm good. I'd rather not spend five hours surrounded by drunk homophobic idiots and high teenagers that either attempt to beat me up or drug me." I scoffed sarcastically, crossing my arms on the table and laying my head on them.

He smiled slightly in return and I proceeded to make notes in my book on song lyrics, as well as sketching various shapes in the corners of the pages.

The squeaky door flew open again and another student, who was one of Ashs friends, walked inside alongside Mrs Scott.

I was almost certain that the guys name was Cole Miker, and he was the silent yet deadly type. Well, silent unless he had something against you. Then he made sure you knew about it.

Basically you didn't want to get on his bad side. That was about all I knew of him.

Hey, since I'm on this topic, I'll tell you about the whole of Ashs gang.

Alec Parker was the least threatening of the four, as he never really got angry and was almost always smiling. I'm not sure how he was roped into the whole thing with Ash, but he had changed a bit after he did.

Next there was James Witner, who quite honestly wasn't the friendliest guy around. He wasn't really bad, but he had been known to get violent at times.

Anyway, he's tolerable as long as he wasn't beating me up or if he was drunk, hitting on anyone and everyone.

Finally, we have the one and only Ash. He was annoying and really quite aggravating most of the time. For his personality, he thought he knew it all, but he didn't have a particularly bad temper. I'd only ever seen him really mad once, and that was not a good day.

Let's just say that someone went home with a broken arm and a fractured collarbone.

That's beside the point though, and that was a year ago. He seems to have changed after the threat of being expelled. Well, changed as much as someone like he can.

"So Miker, what did you do to get in here?" Ash raised an eyebrow when Miss left the classroom, a hint of mischief lacing his voice.

"Sassed back at the teacher. You?" He replied dully, not bothering to glance up at Ash for more than a second.

"Got caught in the janitors closet." He smirked and I couldn't help but scoff and roll my eyes.

"Gotta problem twink?" Cole snapped and I jolted at the nickname, looking down at the floor before deciding to keep my mouth shut.

"Now now, don't scare the poor kid." Ash teases and I clenched my fists together, trying not to retaliate.

"Well that's what he is." Cole scoffed and I felt a twinge in my heart. Even though I didn't like him and couldn't give less of a shit about that douche and what he thought, it still hurt.

"So Skyter, why'd you get landed in detention? Didn't expect to see you in here." Ash asked in a fairly sincere voice and I let my eyes trail up to look at him.

"I- er... wasn't paying attention." I answered in a quiet voice.

The two of them let out a laugh and I sighed.

I want to get out of here. Now.

Just my luck to get a detention the day these two pricks are in here.

I wonder if they're ever not in there though.

I glanced at the hanging clock near the back of the room and slumped down onto the desk after seeing I still had twenty minutes left. I couldn't deal with this much longer.

The two others continued to talk while I sat in silence, earphone in while I wrote. I was listening to 'Ground Control' by the band All Time Low while doodling little spirals in the corners of the pages.

The seconds slowly ticked by and after around ten minutes, I felt a tap to my shoulder. I pulled one of the earphones out and looked over to the side only to find Ash way too close to my face and almost falling off his chair to lean across.

"What's your problem?" I snapped, annoyed he interrupted the chorus of one of my favourite songs, 'Dirty Laundry'.

"Calm down there Sky, all I wanted to say is your lips look really fucking kissable." Ash smirked and his eyes trailed down, too low for my liking, before he proceeded to lick his own lips.

"W-what?" I practically choked, cheeks burning up as I jumped out of my chair at lightning speed to get some distance between us.

Whatthefuckwhatthefuckwhatthefuck-

"Chill. I was joking. Now sit back down." He sniggered before leaning back over to a half disgusted looking Cole.

I swear to god-

"Look how red he is, that got his twink self so worked up." Cole sneered and let out a cold laugh.

I mumbled under my breath before quickly gathering my pencils and books together, desperate to get out of here. The air felt so thick I was worried I was going to choke on the tension.

Thankfully there was only a few minutes left and as soon as the clock hit half past, I was out of here.

"So red cheeks, ya coming to the party?" Cole asked and I didn't dare to look up at him.

"N-no. I'm good." I stuttered a reply and mentally cursed myself for not sounding stronger than I actually felt.

"That's no fun. Come on, live a little." He pressed, most likely trying to make me feel like I was worse than him for not.

"I said I don't want to, Cole." I jeered before proceeding to give him a hard glare, making sure to not fall for his tricks. I wasn't interested, and I didn't really feel like being drugged anytime soon.

I'd both watched and read enough things to know how at almost every teenage party, someone would end up getting raped.

"Fine, but he's not wrong, though. You really should live a little."

As soon as those words were spoken, the clock hit half four and I swiftly grabbed my bag,  jacket and phone.

I was out of the room and down the corridor before either of them could say another word, dying to get out of this godforsaken building.
