Chapter 9: 7 ♜ Plot Twist

The King of Metropolis ✔Words: 10309

Spencer couldn't focus on the freshly prepared Japanese cuisine in front of him. He couldn't even taste the delicious-looking Soba noodles in front of him. No matter how many times his mother tried to engage him in conversation, Spencer just couldn't concentrate on what she was saying. He was seething with anger and all he wanted to do was to punch his brother.

So many questions rushed through his head. How long had he been dealing? Charlie and Dustin had been on and off for past five years but Dustin had been in jail for the past two. And what about Nora? Spencer felt guilty because he couldn't tell Nora about Oliver. He was irritated that Oliver was still taking drugs and felt Nora should know. But he couldn't betray his best friend like that.

He needed to relax. He needed a distraction because the questions on his mind were popping up at light speed and his head felt like it was about to explode.

'Let's do something tonight,' He texted under the table to Amelie. A date with Amelie sounded perfect. She had this wonderful power of being able to soothe him no matter what.

'I'm going clubbing with my friends :( '

Spencer sunk lower into his seat.

'But you should come out with us. Come over later!' She texted back after a few seconds.

The thought of meeting Amelie's friends gave Spencer terrible butterflies. What if they didn't like him or approve of him? Even though him and Amelie had only been together for less than a week, he felt a connection with her and really didn't want third parties to influence what they had. The short time span of their relationship meant that it was still in a vulnerable state. They hadn't crossed that secure point in their relationship. But he also didn't want to stay at home alone or else he'd spend hours agonising over Charlie and Oliver. He had to just suck it up and meet with Amelie despite the risks.

'Perfect, I'll see you later'

Spencer found Amelie waiting for him outside her apartment. She hadn't noticed his car and in the few seconds it took her to realise he had arrived, Spencer tried to compose himself. It seemed like every time he saw her, Amelie became even more stunning. Even Spencer's chauffeur seemed to be enchanted by Amelie. As soon as she spotted him, she waved at him with her ring-adorned fingers and strutted over to the car.

"Hey, Kingsley..."

"Hi," He croaked. Apparently those few seconds hadn't been enough.

She dipped down slowly to take off her heels, revealing just how backless her dress was.

"Where are we going?" Spencer asked after swallowing the spit that seemed to accumulate in his mouth after all the silence.

"This really cool place near Soho," She stated before rolling up the partition between the driver and their backseat. "It's super elite but my friend was able to get us on the guest list."

"Sounds fun."

She smiled and planted a soft kiss on his lips, instantly knocking him into a daze. "I'm really glad you're coming."

"I'm sorry to intrude on your time with your friends. I just needed something to distract me..."

Her lips curled up as she slowly moved towards him and threw her leg across his lap. She guided his hands up her dress to the small of her back.

"I know just the thing."

Spencer was nervous and came across as hesitant when his arms stiffened around her. To tell the truth, he froze up because he was clueless.

"Live in the moment, Kingsley," She whispered into his ear.

Deciding to seize the moment he began to kiss her neck. He moved her dress' loose straps over her shoulders and took a moment to admire her.

"What are you doing?" She laughed.

"I swear....Looking at you is like looking at art."

"I bet you say that to all your girls..."

He shook his head. "There's no one like you,

Amelie."

She chuckled and arched her neck as Spencer continued to litter her skin with lavender stains. Her fingers knotted in his hair, a sensation that drove him crazy. But just as his hands began to move up her legs and under her dress, the car came to a halt.

"Oh, shit, we're here," Amelie exhaled. She kissed him again.

"Do we have to go?" Spencer groaned. "My apartment is only like a few blocks from here..." Spencer retracted his hands from the waistband of Amelie's panties and instead rested them around her back.

Amelie let out a soft sigh before getting off of Spencer. "I would love that more than anything. But my friends are waiting inside for me. But..." She brought her lips close to his ears and whispered in a low, hushed tone that drove him crazy. "... we have all night later. And I promise it will be worth the wait."

Spencer's eyes shamelessly followed her as she exited the car and for the umpteenth time that day he thought about how lucky he was. When he finally caught up with her after dragging himself out of the car he found her arguing with the bouncer.

"What's going on?" He asked.

"He said my name isn't on the guest list!"

"Oh? No, there has to be a mistake. Try Spencer Kingsley."

The bouncer froze and slowly looked up. He narrowed his eyes as if he was making sure it was really Spencer. "Oh, shit, Spencer Kingsley of course you can go in."

Spencer furrowed his eyebrows curiously. "But don't you have to check the guest list?"

"Not for a Kingsley. I know who you are." He raised the velvet rope and gestured for them to go in.

"Huh? How?" Spencer asked, probing further.

But Amelie was already pulling him away before he could get an answer.

"Quick, before he changes his mind!

"But how does he know me?"

Amelie smiled incredulously at him. "Wait, you're actually confused?" She rolled her eyes and let out a soft laugh. "Do you never notice the stares? The hushed whispers that suddenly come to a halt as you walk by? Spencer, you're a big deal in Manhattan."

Stares? Whispers? Spencer really was clueless. "But... I never did anything."

"You were royalty, Kingsley. You still are. You, Oliver Scott, Nora Lawrence and Madeline Lockhart."

"But popularity was their thing. I never cared about it."

Amelie shrugged. "Doesn't matter. People around here worship you. Plus that interview on Kimmel-"

"It was a quick five minute interview at the Emmys. I was only there because I helped write a script."

Amelie peered suspiciously at him. "Wow. You're so humble. Just accept it. You've got more power in your hands than you think."

As if on cue, a random guy walked up to them just as Spencer was about to shake his head.

"Spencer Kingsley! Wow, it's an honour to finally meet you!"

"Huh?"

Amelie rolled her eyes and laughed. "Kingsley, this is my friend Josh Hickins."

"Hi Lee," Josh purred back to her before engulfing her in a huge hug. "It's been a minute."

"Hm, that might be because you cheated on me," She replied.

Spencer stiffened as his eyes darted to Josh's arm which was lazily thrown over Amelie's shoulders and the close proximity between their faces. Spencer wasn't the jealous type but a warning would have been nice. Seeming to notice Spencer's sudden discomfort, Amelie subtly shrugged off Josh's arm and moved to Spencer's side.

"Josh and I dated a few years ago. But we're better as friends," She explained.

Josh nodded. "Yeah, Lee is a terrible girlfriend. No offense."

"Thanks," She said sarcastically.

Amelie placed her hand in Spencer's and guided him to the VIP section. Josh went in first and the pair followed him. They were lead to a long sofa where three other people were sitting, two guys and one girl.

"Kingsley, these are my friends. Maria and Paulo are twins and the other guy is August."

Maria stood up and shook his hand enthusiastically. Spencer mentally noted how much resemblance she beared with Selena Quintanilla. It was uncanny.

"It's great to meet you!" Maria chirped. "I'm obsessed with your movies."

"You've watched my movies?"

"Of course! I go to NYU and over there you're like a legacy. 'Queenly' is probably my favourite project of yours. Although that script you wrote for Guillermo del Toro was amazing too," She rambled.

Spencer couldn't focus on what she was saying, however, as his eyes followed Josh and Amelie carefully. They had sat down together and Josh was way too comfortable with Amelie. His hands were all over her.

"...You're so talented. I'd love to get some tips from you!"

"Huh?"

Maria pouted her lips. "Tips? You good?"

"Oh. Yeah, yeah." He replied with a guilty smile on his face. "Sorry. I'm just super tired. Anyway, of course I'd be happy to help you!"

They took a seat at the bar and grabbed a drink. Spencer stopped worrying about Amelie and soon all his wisdom flowed out of him. He loved giving advice. However, once Maria's hand landed on his shoulder and she began to rub his upper arm he began to realise that maybe she was less interested in filmmaking tips and more interested in sleeping with him. She began to lean closer, so close that Spencer could smell her sandalwood perfume. She stopped laughing and smiled knowingly.

"Oh," He exhaled.

"How about we get out of here?" She whispered seductively.

"Oh. Um..." Spencer awkwardly took a step back from her to distance himself.

Maria's smile fell. "What's wrong?"

"I'm sorry I just... I thought it was clear I'm here with Amelie."

Raising her eyebrow, she scoffed. "I don't even think that's clear to Amelie...."

Her perfectly manicured finger flicked upwards and pointed at the spot where Amelie and Josh were sitting. Her arms were hooked around his neck as they kissed.

Spencer's heart sank as his lips pressed tight together. A pained expression painted itself on his face. His emotions swirled around in a cycle of anger and sadness and disappointment.

He found himself stumbling towards them. Without realising what he was doing, he reached down and pulled Josh off her.

"What's going on?!" He spat bitterly.

Amelie angrily shot up and stood at Josh's side. "What's wrong with you, Kingsley?!"

"Yeah! What's your problem, man?!" Josh added aggressively.

"My problem?! My problem is that you're kissing my girlfriend!"

Amelie froze. "Girlfriend?"

And at that moment, Spencer would have loved more than anything for the ground to open up and swallow him up whole because he truly believed he would never be able to live past the embarrassment of that moment.
