Chapter 4: The Price of Power
The Southern pack didn't make it easy. Their leader, a towering Alpha named Kyungsoo, was as ruthless as they come. He had heard the rumors of Jungkook's power, but nothing could have prepared him for the fury that was about to be unleashed.
Jungkook was no longer the playful pup he had once been. No longer just the boy who shared midnight conversations with Taehyung under the stars. He was the Alpha King of his pack now. And anyone who threatened his family would feel the weight of his wrath.
Kyungsoo took a step forward, his eyes narrowed in challenge. The tension in the air was thick, like a storm ready to break. His pack flanked him, a group of powerful Alphas and Betas, all with an air of superiority.
Jungkook stepped forward to meet him, his own pack behind him, each member exuding strength. His Beta, Jimin, was on his right, and Taehyung's safety was at the forefront of his mind. His gaze flicked to the direction where Taehyung and their pups were, hidden safely behind the walls of their camp.
Kyungsoo raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. "Jungkook, you know I don't come without purpose. Your pack has something that belongs to mine."
Jungkook's eyes flicked dangerously. "And what exactly is that?" he asked, his voice calm but filled with an unspoken threat.
"Your Luna." Kyungsoo's voice was low, almost taunting, as he took a step forward. "He's a rare prize. A valuable possession to any pack."
The word "possession" hung in the air like poison. Jungkook's fists clenched at his sides, his claws beginning to extend. He could feel his wolf surging within him, itching for the fight. He wasn't about to let anyone take what was his, not after everything they had been through. Not after they had built their family from the ground up.
"You'll never have him," Jungkook growled, the raw power in his voice sending a shiver through the surrounding Alphas. "Taehyung is mine. He always has been, and he always will be."
Kyungsoo's smirk faltered for a second, but he quickly recovered, his eyes cold. "Is that so? Then let's see how well you can protect him."
Before Jungkook could react, Kyungsoo signaled his pack to move. They surged forward, the first wave of attack coming like a crash of thunder.
Jungkook's instincts kicked in. With a swift motion, he reached for Jimin, pulling him to his side as the pack rallied together. The battle began in a blur of snarls, growls, and the clash of bodies.
Jungkook didn't hesitate, his movements sharp and precise as he fought back. His Beta, Jimin, was right beside him, handling the other pack members with ease. The Southern pack underestimated them-underestimated the strength of a pack that was built on loyalty, love, and unity.
But through the chaos of battle, Jungkook's mind was elsewhere. His thoughts kept returning to Taehyung. The thought of his mate and their pups being in danger sent a surge of protectiveness through his blood. His wolf urged him to get to them, to keep them safe, but he couldn't let his guard down-not now. Not while they were in the midst of a fight.
Flashback
Jungkook had always known that Taehyung was different. When they were younger, Taehyung had been the wild one, the carefree spirit who always made Jungkook laugh. But over time, as they grew closer, Jungkook began to realize something deeper-something far more significant than just friendship. Taehyung wasn't just his best friend. He was his mate, his Luna.
The night Taehyung had confessed, Jungkook could still remember it clearly. They had been sitting under the stars, as they always did, sharing stories and dreams. But that night, there had been a change in the air. Taehyung had looked at him with those soft, vulnerable eyes and said the words that would change everything.
"I love you, Jungkook," Taehyung had whispered, his voice filled with warmth and sincerity.
Jungkook had stopped breathing for a moment. His heart had hammered in his chest as realization hit him like a wave. "Taehyung," he had whispered, his voice breaking. "I love you too."
End Flashback
That was the moment everything had changed. They had become more than just friends. They had become mates, bound together by their hearts, their souls. And now, after all these years, Jungkook would do whatever it took to protect Taehyung-and their family.
Back in the present, the fight raged on, but Jungkook's focus was unwavering. Every blow he struck, every Alpha he took down, was for Taehyung. His pack fought with him, fierce and determined, but the Southern pack wasn't going down without a fight.
Jimin fought beside him, his eyes always watching Jungkook's back, his movements fluid and precise. "Alpha, we need to push them back," Jimin said through gritted teeth, his voice strained with effort.
Jungkook gave a sharp nod, his eyes locked on Kyungsoo, who was still standing in the back, watching with a smirk as if this were some kind of game.
"This ends now," Jungkook growled. "Get them out of my land."
With a roar, he charged toward Kyungsoo, his wolf taking over as he closed the distance between them. The Southern Alpha barely had time to react before Jungkook collided with him, sending them both crashing to the ground.
Kyungsoo scrambled to his feet, but before he could launch another attack, Jungkook's claws were at his throat, pinning him to the ground with terrifying strength. "I warned you," Jungkook snarled. "Taehyung and my pups are off-limits. You will never touch them."
Kyungsoo's eyes widened, his breath shallow. "You're making a mistake, Jungkook," he said, but his voice lacked the conviction it once held.
Jungkook's gaze hardened, his claws tightening around Kyungsoo's neck. "This is your last warning."
Kyungsoo's pack had already begun to retreat, seeing their leader's defeat. Jungkook, however, was relentless. He wasn't done yet. With a final snarl, he threw Kyungsoo aside, watching as the Southern pack fled into the trees.
The battle was over, but the war wasn't.
As Jungkook turned toward his pack, his gaze immediately sought Taehyung. His heart ached with the need to protect him, to keep him safe. And as Taehyung ran toward him, their pups in tow, Jungkook's fears eased, if only for a moment.
"I told you," Taehyung said with a small, teasing smile. "We've been through worse."
Jungkook pulled Taehyung into his arms, burying his face in his mate's hair. "I'll never let anything happen to you," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion.
The fight was over-for now-but Jungkook knew this was just the beginning. As long as there were those who threatened his family, the war would never truly end.
And Jungkook was ready to burn the world to the ground to protect them.
