Aquarius sighed as she stared out into the boring crisp snow, she was tired of the same old view and often wondered what could be out there, a school perhaps? She lived in an extremely small village up in the mountains, away from civilization. She was one of two girls in her village and then there was him. She gagged at the thought of him.
"Aqua! Honey, isn't it time to go to your friends house?"
Her mom called from the other room. She perked up at the thought, she had completely forgotten about going to Virgo's house, her best friend since she was born. Aquarius shuffled into some clothes and slid into the main room.
"Thanks mom, I'm going."
Aqua said while putting on her huge furry coat, gloves, and hat.
"Ok dear, but be back before the blizzard, if you can't make it back by then just stay at her house." Her mom didn't take her eyes off her cooking.
"Ok mom, bye."
Aqua said just as she shut the door. The crisp cold air instantly bit into her skin and turned her tan cheeks a light rosy red, which was very hard to see. She trudged through the snow, which luckily only went up to her ankles.
The houses were fairly close together and there were only four total, Virgo's house, Aqua's house, his house, and the old couple who have long lived here before them, they were also the village elders. Aqua shivered at the cold and with a trembling hand knocked on the door. You would think living eighteen years in the cold you would get used to it, but Aquarius was often inside her house, taking in the warm heat from the fireplace.
The weather would often change unexpectedly so that made it worse, first it would be warm and then it would be a full out snowstorm.
The door finally opened, Virgo's beaming smile instantly warmed up Aqua's heart. "Come on you must be cold." Virgo said sarcastically.
"I was freezing my damn ass off out there." Aquarius bit back.
Aqua laughed while taking her coat and gloves off but kept the hat on. Virgo was wearing the necklace that split into two that Aqua had given for her birthday. With the pieces together it read best bitch. Aqua always cracked up at that necklace. She remembered that it was damn hard to get that necklace from the shop keepers, who carve messages into pretty much whatever you wanted, AKA his parents.
Aqua entered Virgo's room and as always it was spotless, she snickered while comparing her room to Virgo's.
"Take a seat, darling."
She said with her fake British accent. Aqua rolled her eyes, Virgo knew she couldn't do accents but she tried anyway. Aqua took a seat next to Virgo on the bed, her room was nice and warm.
Aqua looked out her window, the snow began to fall. Aqua zoned out once again thinking what could be out there, maybe a magical school for people who have magic, the possibilities could be endless! Virgo snapped her finger in front of Aqua's face, taking her out of the trance and back into reality. "Do you ever wonder what's out there?" Aquarius started the conversation.
"Definitely." Virgo answered without hesitating. I mean when you live up in the mountains and away from civilization, you create a crazy imagination.
"How do you think the people down there are doing?" Virgo asked.
"Infected, probably." Aquarius sighed.
She remembered when she lived down there. The cities and the cars and the people especially it was nice, until the virus hit. It was transmitted easily, by bite. By the first day, millions were infected and dying.
The virus causes changes in brain activity, making them act much like zombies. Her father had died from the virus. It was a fast and painless death. He was one of the first ones to be infected. Aqua's mom had no choice but to kill him or he would have killed her.
Aqua should be crying but the emotions were blocked by a stone hard dam. Virgo once again waved her hand in front of Aqua's face.
"Your a lot more distant than normal, what's wrong?"
Virgo adjusted her body so that she could face her.
"Well I just had this thought...." Aqua drifted off in her own world again.
"Come one spit it out!"
"I was thinking about running away." Aqua said this very quickly.
"Not because I hate this place but because I want to see what else is out there." Aqua shrugged her shoulders.
Virgo stayed silent for a sec and then whispered " are you crazy? What if you get infected?" She shuddered.
"I don't want to go down there, I want to explore the mountains, maybe there are others surviving just like us?" Aquarius tried negotiating.
"Listen, Aqua, I know your sense of curiosity, but these mountains stretch for miles, we could get killed from just the bitter temperatures." Virgo spoke logically.
" But if we take the chance we could find something amazing!" Aquarius argued.
"Look I thought this through, if you want to come you can, I will not force you, but I could use some company. I will leave at 2:00 am, when everyone is asleep." Aqua faced away from Virgo to look out the window again.
Virgo sighed "boy, you really thought this through haven't you?"
Aquarius nodded.
"Fine." Virgo hesitated a bit but held strong.
"Ok you bring a backpack of blanket, jackets, stuff to keep us warm, I will take care of food, we meet at your window ar 1:50, got it?" Aquarius instructed.
"You have too much time on your hands." Virgo shook her head.
The snow escalated gradually. " I better go, oh and we are going to have to walk through the blizzard." Aqua smiled and put her jacket and gloves back on.
"Damn you." Virgo shook a fist at her.
Aqua laughed and shut the door before the warmth leaked out into the cold.
