âMs. Quill, is this your son with Mr. Warner?â
Holding Felixâs hand tightly, Esther gently leaned in and whispered, âFelix, say hello to Aunt Mandy.
Sheâs the one who gave your dad her liver.â
Felix looked at Mandy, his eyes dark like obsidian, and sized her up before speaking softly. â Hi, Aunt Mandy.â
Mandy approached Felix to pat his head, but he swiftly dodged, leaving her hand awkwardly hanging in the air. She acted unfazed, retracted her hand, and smoothened her hair.
âMs. Quill, shouldnât you tell your son Iâll be his stepmom soon?â she casually said.
âDaddy will never marry you!â Felix snapped before Esther could respond, visibly upset with Mandy.
Mandy gazed at Felix with an amused expression and teased, âOh, Ms. Quill, havenât you told Felix?
Heâs not only getting a stepmom but also a stepdad.â
âYouâre wicked! Daddy will never marry you,â Felix retorted, a mix of cuteness and anger in his tone.
Mandy chuckled as she leisurely returned to her hospital bed and sat down. Though her injuries werenât as severe as Estherâs, she winced with every move. âLittle man, your dad and I have already chosen a wedding theme.â
With twinkling eyes, she added, âItâs a shame it wonât be a traditional wedding, or you could have been the ring bearer.â
Felix felt his mother tense up beside him. He held her tightly and whispered reassuringly, â Mommy, you still have me. Iâll always be with you.â
Feigning concern, Mandy put on her headphones and told Esther, âFelix is still a child. With this sudden change in the family, you should focus on his emotional well-being. Youâre his mother, after all.â
Felix peeked out from Estherâs embrace, stuck his tongue out at Mandy, and whispered to Esther, âMommy, I really donât like this woman.
Esther stroked Felixâs soft hair and softly replied, âWell, sweetie, Aunt Mandy did save your dadâs life.â
Felix snorted, visibly displeased, âSo, Daddy is repaying her with marriage?â
Esther chose to remain silent.
Felix hugged Esther even tighter and asked tenderly, âMommy, can I go see Daddy?â
âYes,â Esther said, her voice filled with joy. âYour dad is in the next room.â
âMommy, Iâll keep Daddy company and then come back to you.â
Felix leaped off the bed and dashed into Bradleyâs room energetically, his arms crossed defiantly. He declared, âDaddy, youâre not allowed to marry Aunt Mandy!â
Bradley couldnât help but chuckle at Felixâs bold statement. Extending his arm, he firmly said, âCome here!â
Felix pouted, standing his ground. âI wonât come unless you promise me.â
âFelix!â Bradley raised his voice. âCome here!â
âI donât care! If you marry Aunt Mandy, Iâll just find myself another Daddy.â
