As soon as Esther heard Chadwickâs voice, fear gripped her, and she shivered. âMr. Pendleton.â.
Chadwick glanced at the pale-faced Esther, his anger evident. âEsther, consider this your final warning.
Our wedding date is set. I wonât hold back if you try anything during this time.â
Tears welled up in Estherâs eyes as she choked out, âMr. Pendleton, donât worry. Iâll keep my promise.â
Chadwick sneered. âYou better behave as my woman, or I might introduce you to some unwelcome friends.â
Every word from Chadwick felt like a poisonous dart piercing Estherâs heart. She numbly nodded and replied, âI understand.â
Chadwick seemed satisfied with her response and softened his tone. âThe Pendleton staff will bring you meals and attend to Mandy. Take care of yourself. Donât bring shame to the Pendletons at the wedding.â
Esther remained silent and nodded again.
Chadwick smiled wickedly, thinking, âBradley, oh Bradley, you think I canât see through your schemes?
You claim not to love Esther, but your actions speak louder.â
Chadwick anticipated Bradleyâs moves and contemplated the trap he would set for the wedding, excitement coursing through him.
Once Chadwick left, Esther collapsed onto the hospital bed, weakened. Was she really going to marry Chadwick? If not, would he truly carry out his threat to take Mandyâs liver from Bradley?
Esther was lost in her thoughts when she suddenly heard a commotion in the corridor. The nurses were exclaiming.
Esther was already overwhelmed by the thoughts of Chadwick and Bradley and felt a throbbing headache. She gently opened her roomâs door and saw delivery men bringing bundles of red roses into Mandyâs room.
âOh my goodness! So many rosesâ¦â
âWho could it be? Did they buy out the entire flower shop in the city?â
âHey, delivery guy, who ordered all these roses for Ms. Pendleton?â
In response to the nurseâs question, a delivery man explained, âA Mr. Bradley Warner ordered them.â
Upon hearing Bradleyâs name, the nurses all looked curiously toward Estherâs room.
Esther stood at her door, her heart aching at the mention of Bradleyâs name.
Mandy was at her roomâs door and weakly clarified to Esther, âMrs. Warner, please donât misunderstand. Mr. Warner and I⦠We have no relationship.â
Each bundle of roses, symbolizing love, felt like sharp knives piercing Estherâs heart. She was about to speak when she heard Bradleyâs voice, so familiar it nearly stopped her heart, echoing down the corridor.
âMandy, who says we have no relationship? I have your liver inside me!â
Mandy humbly replied, âMr. Warner, if you want to thank someone for the liver donation, you should thank Mrs. Warner!â âMandy, youâve given me a second chance at life. If you donât mind, I want to marry you!â
