Esther suppressed her disgust and softly asked, âIâm feeling a bit unwell now. Can I go back to the hospital now?â
Chadwick playfully lifted Estherâs chin and mockingly smiled at Bradley. âAre you feeling unwell because of me or Bradley?â he asked.
Jasper stepped up to explain for Esther. âMr. Pendleton, Esther just underwent liver transplant surgeryâ¦â
Chadwick glanced indifferently at Jasper, his voice turning icy. âIâm asking Esther, not you!â
Upon hearing Jasper mention Estherâs liver transplant surgery, Bradley raised an eyebrow and quietly asked, âWhat liver transplant surgery?â
Chadwickâs tone grew harsh. âIf she hadnât secretly undergone a liver transplant, she would already be Mrs. Pendleton.â
He then sneered, âShe went to great lengths to save you.â
Estherâs heart twinged painfully, like a needle pricking it.
Bradley snorted. âPendleton, if you donât watch her closely, she might get too close to other men.â
âBradley Warner!â Estherâs eyes flashed with anger. âHow can you insult me like this?!â
Bradley glanced at Jasper and casually remarked, âHasnât your confidant always been with you?â
Chadwick chuckled, sending shivers down spines.
Jasper frowned, puzzled by Bradleyâs behavior.
âJasper, right? Iâll save a spot for you as a groomsman. You can watch the woman you like marry me!â
Chadwick said.
Although Jordyn didnât understand these menâs strange tastes, she didnât want Jasper to be singled out because of Esther. She boldly held Jasperâs hand and smiled at Chadwick. âMr. Pendleton, would you mind reserving a spot for me as a bridesmaid? I donât want my boyfriend getting too close to other women.â
Bradley coldly taunted as Jordyn spoke, âEsther, your guardian angel is too busy guarding other women!â
âWhen did you two get together?â Chadwick asked, furrowing his brow.
Jordyn didnât hide anything and openly said, âI pursued Jasper. Iâve liked him for a while because heâs so devoted. When Ms. Quill had surgery at our hospital, I took the chance. You and Ms. Quill played a part in it, donât you think?â
Jasper remained silent, so Esther assumed it was true and genuinely wished them happiness.
âCongratulations to both of you.â
Bradley and Chadwick snickered, seemingly mocking Estherâs sincerity.
âEsther, I promised to be your best friend forever.â Jasper held Jordynâs hand, a silent confirmation of her words. âYou donât have to feel burdened now. Iâll always be there for you as a friend.â
Jordyn leaned against Jasperâs shoulder and playfully said, âEsther, Iâll be your friend too.â
Esther smiled and congratulated her. âJasperâs a really good man-â
Bradley interrupted Esther, sounding indifferent, âPendleton, you once offered me Mandyâs hand in marriage. Is that offer still valid?â
