Jasper frowned slightly, disbelief filling his voice. âSo, Iâve been blocked?â
âBradleyâs jealousy got the best of him.â Kevin empathized, fully understanding. Who could tolerate another man doting on his wife like a backup quarterback, ready to step in if things went awry?
âIs there something you should tell her?â
âLet Esther know Iâve got a meeting with Ms. Pendleton tomorrow at 10:00 am. Sheâll understand.â
Intrigued, Kevin prodded further, âWhatâs the meeting about?â
âItâs best if you donât know.â
With a resigned shrug, Kevin thought, âAlright, keep your secrets. I didnât really want to know anyway.â
Kevin ended the call and rapped on the hospital room door.
Bradley glanced at Esther warningly as she struggled with her blanket. He opened the door and asked, âWhat else?â
âBradley, what do you both want for dinner?â
âAnything,â Bradley replied indifferently.
Kevin retreated, saying, âIn that case, you can order your own takeout.â
He had genuinely wanted to do something nice for Bradley and Esther. But if Bradley was ungrateful, what more could he do?
âEsther, what would you like to eat?â
Bradley forcefully ushered Kevin out of the room before he could pass on Jasperâs message.
Determined not to be outmaneuvered again, Kevin paused and texted Esther.
Kevin: [Tomorrow, 10:00 am., meeting with Ms. Pendleton.]
Bradley snatched Estherâs phone when it buzzed and read the text. âWhoâs Ms. Pendleton?â
Esther rolled her eyes and replied weakly, âMandy Pendleton.â
âYou wonât be going.â
Bradley fired off a text to Kevin.
[She wonât make it.]
Confused, Kevin responded: [???]
Estherâs body heated up in the room, and she noticed Bradleyâs mood remained steady. She spoke softly. âBrad, can I uncover myself? Iâm really hotâ¦â
âNo,â he replied coldly.
A flush spread across Estherâs face. Her blood felt like it was nearing its boiling point. âBrad, I think I have a fever.â
Bradley cupped her chin with a sly smirk and teased, âEsther, are you trying to⦠seduce⦠me? Very well⦠Weâll do it your way then!â
âBrad, Iâm really overheated.â Her body felt like it was on fire, and her spirit trembled like leaves caught in an autumn breeze.
In one swift motion, Bradley pulled the blanket away. His imposing figure cast a shadow over Esther.
His kisses rained down on her delicate neck like the first drops of spring rain.
As she felt the cool touch of Bradleyâs soft lips, she couldnât help but reach out and grip his head tightly.
It was urgent, pleading, and hungry for more⦠of those icy kisses.
