âThank you, Uncle Oliver.â
Noticing Estherâs uneasiness and detachment, Oliver responded with a simple smile. He realized that Esther hadnât fully grasped her newfound connection to the Quills. Nevertheless, he believed she would comprehend the Quillsâ inherent commitment to safeguard their own. As long as the Quills endured, so would their protection of Esther.
After departing from Oliverâs office, Jasper drove Esther back to the hospital.
âEsther, please wait at the hospital. Once I can reach Mandy, Iâll come to pick you up for your meeting with her.â
Understanding Jasperâs intentions, Esther asked with concern, âDo you think sheâll cooperate with us?â
âWith the right approach, I believe she will. No daughter would let someone exploit her mother as leverage against her. Her mother is her weakness, maybe even her Achillesâ heel. If we handle this situation correctly, we can get what we need.â
âJasper, I want to accompany you,â Esther expressed, hoping to persuade Mandy as soon as possible.
She wished for Mandyâs liver to save Bradley. Every day sooner would relieve Bradley from his suffering.
âI believe Bradley will wake up soon. Go and keep him company, and leave the rest to me.â
Esther felt a sense of guilt due to Jasperâs understanding nature. He had been so kind to her, yet she couldnât offer him anything in return. She knew she shouldnât take advantage of Jasperâs kindness so lightly, but she didnât have any better options.
At that moment, she felt morally wrong for exploiting Jasperâs feelings.
âJasper, please stay safe.â
Jasperâs gaze held a touch of warmth as he reassured her. He smiled lightly and even teased, âIf I die because of you, will you remember me for the rest of your life?â
Despite his smiling demeanor, Esther was unsettled by his words. âJasper, donât say such ominous things. I hope you stay safeâ¦â
âSilly girl, why are you taking my casual words seriously?â Jasper gently patted Estherâs head, offering comfort. His gaze contained an inexplicable sense of indulgence. âYouâre so innocent. If I were to die, what would you do all alone? Donât worry. Iâll stay alive and become your strongest support, your best friend. Now, go on. Bradley will be very happy to see you if he wakes up.â
Esther stood by the roadside and waved goodbye as Jasper drove away.
As she turned around, she suddenly felt a pair of intense eyes locked onto her. In that instant, her blood seemed to run cold.
With a heart pounding in anxiety, she pushed open the door to Bradleyâs hospital room, only to discover an empty bed.
âBradley!â she exclaimed in alarm.
Cold hands clamped firmly around her delicate neck the next moment, forcefully pinning her against the hospital room door. âEsther, are you a f*cking sl*t?!â
