Esther looked up with tears on her long, curled eyelashes. Those tears seemed even more pitiful and moving in the cafeâs gentle lighting.
âButâ¦â Esther could not agree to Chadwickâs request. She could not possibly marry him.
Mandy smirked mockingly. âEsther, didnât you say youâd do anything to save Bradley? Itâs only marrying my brother, but you refuse? Your love isnât that deep, after all!â
Tears welled up in Estherâs eyes as she shook her head. âNo, itâs not like that.â
âNevermind. Iâve shown you a clear path. If you donât want to take it, then donât come begging me. I canât help you!â Mandy picked up her purse and left the cafe.
She got into her car, casually tossing her valuable limited-edition handbag inside. Then she leaned on the steering wheel and laughed.
It was so amusing!
Mandy felt that undergoing plastic surgery to transform from Liliane Anstey into Mandy Pendleton was absolutely worth it! The joy of watching the drama up close was something only she could understand.
She wiped away the tears of laughter from her eyes and looked at Esther in the cafe with mockery. She was confident that Esther would choose to marry Chadwick to save Bradley. This grand drama had already begun, and she just needed to prepare a seat to watch it unfold.
Mandy had left for a long time before Esther finally managed to stand up from the floor shakily. She sat back in her chair and cradled the coffee cup before her.
The heat from the coffee cup could not warm her cold heart. Was there really no other way? Did she have no choice but to marry Chadwick?
Esther covered her face in anguish, and tears of despair dripped through her fingers.
After searching for a long time, Jasper finally found Esther. He stood at the cafe entrance and watched as Esther cried alone. Once he mustered the strength to control his emotions, he approached her and pulled her into his embrace.
Jasper gently patted her back like one would comfort a child. âEsther, donât cry.â
Esther slowly regained her composure as she took in Jasperâs faint, minty scent. âJasper, must I really beg Mr. Pendleton?â
Was she going to beg a repulsive man like Chadwick over Mandyâs liver?
âAs your friend, I donât want you to do this, nor do I want you to beg him,â Jasper said.
He sat down on another chair after seeing that Esther had stopped crying. âBut if Mandyâs liver is truly the only match for Bradley, then we should go and ask him.â
Estherâs heart sank. âBut⦠am I really going to marry him?â
Jasper looked at Esther with a determined gaze and said, âGiven itâs a family like the Pendletons, it wonât be settled immediately, even if oneâs getting married. Why donât we pretend to agree, keep Chadwick in check, and have Mandy donate her liver to Bradley first?
âAfter the liver transplant surgery, we can tear up the agreement with Chadwick Of course, there are risks in doing it that way. The best solution is for the Pendletons to no longer pose a threat to you.â
