Kevinâs heart pounded wildly as he checked on Esther, her face ghostly white, devoid of any color.
Bradleyâs strong arms enveloped her, cradling her as if she were as light as a feather.
Mandy observed Bradley making his exit and quietly suggested, âBrother, we should follow them.â
Chadwickâs eyes turned ominous as he snatched the divorce papers off the table. âHurry up and get the divorce finalized!â
The employee at the window nervously responded, âMr. Pendleton, we need both parties present for the divorce.â
A cooling-off period was originally in place for marriages, maintained there because Esther and Bradley already had a court-issued divorce decree. Otherwise, a 30-day cooling-off period would be mandatory.
âDo it!â Chadwick snapped, directing his fury at the hapless employee.
Mandy offered an apologetic smile to the employee and calmly said, âBrother, the divorce can wait. Our first priority should be to check on Estherâs condition.â
âWhat do you mean?â Chadwick asked, his tone icy.
âEsther has fainted. Our immediate concern should be her health. Once sheâs stable, we can come back and finalize the divorce. After all, Bradley is dependent on my liver for his survival.â
âYou make a valid point.â Chadwick touched Mandyâs cheek gently, praising her. âWe have time on our hands. Letâs not rush things.â
Chadwick chuckled scornfully. âBradley, how you dare tell me to move? Fine! We shall see how this unfolds.â
The group reached the hospital, where Kevin swiftly wheeled Esther into the emergency room.
Outside, Bradley was on a bench, clutching a doctorâs collar and growling, âYou better save that woman inside, understand?â
The doctor was baffled, stuttering, âSir, I donât know which patient youâre referring to.â
âHer nameâs Esther Quill! If anything happens to her, youâre all going down!â
Overhearing Bradleyâs volatile outburst, Kevin handed Esther off to the emergency team and stepped outside to gently pat Bradleyâs shoulder.
âBradley, calm down!â
Bradleyâs grip on the doctorâs collar remained firm.
The doctor stood paralyzed, fearing he faced a madman.
Noticing the doctorâs fear, Kevin carefully pried Bradleyâs fingers loose and sternly advised, âIf you keep acting like this, no doctor will dare to treat Esther.â
The mere mention of âEstherâ appeared to strike a chord in Bradley. He loosened his grip gradually, locking eyes with Kevin.
With a resigned sigh, Kevin said, âStay put, Bradley. Iâll go get Dr. Foster.â
While Kevin was a medical doctor, he specialized in neurology. He had originally pursued medicine for Thomasâ sake, but by the time he had completed his studies, Thomas had already passed away.
