âWhat do you mean?â Esther looked at Chadwick in shock. âConsidering your family statusâ¦â
âItâs true that it doesnât have to be you,â Chadwick said arrogantly. âPlenty of women are willing to have my children, but only you are the best candidate.â
âIâm still married to Bradley.â Esther decided not to follow Chadwickâs narrative and aimed to take control of the conversation. âGiven your familyâs status, it wouldnât be honorable for you to marry someone elseâs wife.â
Chadwick frowned and asked ominously, âYou two havenât divorced?â
âWith your resources, Mr. Pendleton, you can easily find it out.â
Chadwick made a gesture and made a call to check if Esther had divorced. Naturally, the answer was negative.
âMr. Pendleton, the Pendletons are influential and dignified. Marrying someone elseâs wife isnât respectable. Donât you agree?
Chadwick stared coldly at Esther, reminding her, âThen divorce Bradley right now.â
âHeâs already applied for an appeal!â
Esther wanted to use Chadwickâs influence to get Bradley out of jail. Bradleyâs health could not afford an extended stay in custody, especially since he needed a liver transplant urgently.
âItâs just an appeal. He can withdraw it,â Chadwick remarked. âYou just focus on preparing to be my bride. Iâll take care of the rest.â
He gleefully fantasized about having Bradley watch him and Esther consummate their marriage on their wedding night.
Esther smiled and suppressed her disgust. âFor the sake of the Pendletonsâ reputation, please keep our arrangement confidential.â
âGood, very nice,â Chadwick said with a sly smile. âYou already have the awareness of a Mrs.
Pendleton. I applaud you.â
âThank you for the compliment,â Esther replied with a smile that did not reach her eyes.
Chadwick wanted to threaten her into marrying him. She had agreed just to cut off any future trouble.
After parting ways with Chadwick, Esther did not return to the hospital. Instead, she met with Oliver.
âUncle Oliver.â
Oliver asked, âEsther, you should be resting in the hospital and can just call if you have anything to discuss.â
âChadwick threatened me again today to marry him, and 1 agreed!â
As Esther spoke, Oliver did not interrupt but listened carefully.
âUncle Oliver, we must destroy the Pendletons completely!â
As long as the Pendletons stood, she would never find peace.
Oliver was not surprised that Esther had this thought. He stared at her and asked seriously, âEsther, completely destroying the Pendletons is not as easy as you think.â
As long as the head of the Pendletons held their current position, it would not be so easy to bring them down.
âI understand that.â Esther took a deep breath and said firmly, âSo, we need to come up with a foolproof plan to make the Pendletons disappear from Capitus completely.â
âIf you have any plans, you can share them. We can work with you,â Oliver said.
Esther shook her head. She had only been in Capitus for a short time and was not familiar with the various powers in the city.
