Estherâs reddened eyes brimmed with tears upon hearing that, and she struggled to breathe as she exclaimed, âYouâre not human! Youâre a devil.â
Chadwick laughed, shamelessly replying, âThank you for the compliment.â
Esther took a deep breath and seriously thought back to the message she had deleted. She had only seen a bloody severed hand, but she had not carefully examined whether it belonged to Bradley or not.
Naturally, she could not trust Chadwickâs words alone.
âI want to personally confirm if that hand belongs to him.â
Chadwick whistled smugly. âI shall generously allow you to confirm it in person then.â
He hung up with a loud click.
On Estherâs end, the beeping sound from the phone sounded like someone was hammering her heart heavily.
She forced herself to calm down, intending to verify the truth of Chadwickâs claim. However, she felt that it would be better to go to the detention center tomorrow rather than asking someone else for confirmation.
Hearsay was not as reliable as seeing with her own eyes.
That night, Esther tossed and turned.
At some point, she finally fell asleep but was awakened by terrifying nightmares filled with blood and gore. Instead, she decided not to sleep and put on a knitted sweater to stroll in the hospital garden.
She was well aware Chadwick did not really appreciate her or love her. He merely wanted to regain his dignity since Bradley had shamed him.
She shouldnât panic at this moment. She could negotiate with Chadwick because her marriage with Bradley wasnât officially over. Regardless of Chadwickâs attitude, he had to consider how this situation would affect his father. He couldnât marry a married woman.
Esther started to come up with a plan.
The morning in Capitus was chilly. Esther took a deep breath and grabbed her phone. She was about to call Chadwick but decided to call Kevin instead.
âKevin, itâs me.â
Kevin had a bit to drink last night and still felt groggy like he hadnât fully woken up. He asked, âEsther, whatâs going on?â
Esther hesitated briefly and gently said, âKevin, can you test me for organ donation?â
âEsther, are you serious?â
Estherâs request snapped Kevin awake. He never expected her to be willing to give up her life for Bradley.
âKevin, itâs so we can find an alternative if my liver canât be a match for Bradley. Can you just watch him die?â
Kevin sighed deeply, his voice unsure. âIs it the right thing to do?â
âKevin, itâs not about whatâs right or wrong. I just want him to live.â
âAlright,â Kevin agreed. âIâll come over today for the testing.â
â
Kevin realized that by not completing the tissue typing for Esther, she would continue to worry, which wasnât beneficial for her recovery. It was best to take care of it. Regardless of the outcome, it would help ease Estherâs concerns.
âThank you, Kevin,â Esther expressed her gratitude. âWhen can we begin?â
âIâll prepare and come over right away,â Kevin replied.
