Bradley had cancer. Esther had to find out where her daughter was. As a mother, she was determined to locate her.
Bradley immediately realized the meaning behind Estherâs words. Thinking about Estherâs earlier attempts to please him, he felt a lump in his throat. âDo you want to know?â
Esther nodded frantically.
Bradley sneered. âIâll tell you where she is when you become pregnant with my child again!â
âBut I just had a miscarriage!â
Esther knew that having another pregnancy so soon after a miscarriage was not advisable, even without medical knowledge. Agatha had mentioned her poor health, and if she did not take proper care, she could face the risk of another miscarriage. Frequent miscarriages could lead to complications.
Bradley shot Esther a disdainful glance and taunted, âYou can leave now!â
He left the visitorâs room, leaving Esther despairing and in tears. She cried for a while before gathering the strength to leave.
Kevin, worried about Esther, rushed to her when he saw her. He asked, concerned, âEsther, why are you bleeding? Did he hurt you again?â
Thinking of Bradleyâs mistreatment, Esther blushed slightly. She forced herself to speak despite the discomfort in her throat. âItâs not my blood.â
âIs it his blood?â Kevin exclaimed.
Esther nodded.
Kevin had just convinced himself he wouldnât concern himself with Bradleyâs well-being any longer.
However, upon noticing blood on Esther, he couldnât help but worry that Bradley might be facing a medical emergency.
Without hesitation, he swiftly called Jonathan to check on Bradleyâs medical parole application status.
âKevin, they wonât release him from jail. I heard that the Pendletons and Quills are putting pressure on this.
Kevin felt an immense headache. He rubbed his temples and asked, âAlright, I understand. Can you please get more details?â
âSure.â
Esther asked anxiously, âWhat did the lawyer say?â
Kevin replied, âThe lawyer said Bradley canât be released on medical parole for now.â
âWhat should we do? His condition is so seriousâ¦â
Kevin reassured, âEsther, you donât have to worry about these things. Focus on taking care of your own health. Leave the rest to me.â
Esther momentarily fell silent. âWhat if I ask my uncle for help?â she asked.
âEsther!â Kevin reminded her with a slightly cold tone, âThe Quills are doing this to vent their anger on your behalf. You canât intervene. The Quills are your family, and they have acknowledged you. You canât let them down over him.
âItâs better to have someone protect you than not, Esther. Do you understand what I mean?â
Esther clearly understood the meaning behind Kevinâs words. However, she still could not help but think about informing her uncles.
Bradley was Felixâs father and a patient. His extended stay in jail was not a long-term solution.
After Esther and Kevin left the detention center, a man in black intercepted their path. âMs. Quill, Mr.
Pendleton has requested your presence.â
Kevin immediately stood before Esther and replied, âTell Mr. Pendleton we donât want to see him.â âMr.
Slade, Mr. Pendleton wants to see Ms. Quill, not you.â
