Upon hearing the phoneâs beep, Kevin took a deep breath. He hadnât foreseen Esther assuming he and Bradley were orchestrating another dramatic act. Yet, on second thought, he realized her perspective was understandable given the tense circumstances.
Kevin wanted to call Esther again and clarify Bradleyâs condition. However, he realized his number had been blocked too.
âDr. Slade, Mr. Warnerâs test report is out.â
Kevinâs secretary handed him Bradleyâs test report, her expression grim.
Upon seeing her troubled face, Kevinâs expression also turned serious. He carefully flipped through Bradleyâs report page by page, and then he asked in a shaky voice, âLiver cancer?â
âYes, based on the report, it does seem to be liver cancer.â
Kevin was shocked. He stammered, âBut his medical examination last year showed no issues. How could he suddenly have liver cancer?â
Bradley was so young, and his health had always been excellent. How could he end up with liver cancer?
âDr. Slade, treating Mr. Warnerâs liver cancer isnât difficult. The real difficulty lies in his headâsâ¦â
Kevin reexamined the report and sank into his chair.
The news of Bradleyâs illness left him stunned, his mind blank. It took him a while to collect himself and start making calls to doctors he knew.
The entire afternoon, Kevin made numerous calls⦠until there was a knock on the door, and the secretary entered.
âDr. Slade, Mr. Warner has woken up and wants to see you.â
Kevin replied hoarsely, âOkay.â
He stepped into the bathroom and turned on the tap, splashing cold water on his face. Gathering his courage, he made his way into Bradleyâs hospital room.
Bradley sat on the bed, his white hair tousled, his face carrying an inexplicable sadness. âKevin, have my test results come out?
Kevin gestured gently toward Bradleyâs hair, saying, âBradley, your hair looks quite nice today.â
Bradley grabbed a pillow and threw it at Kevin. âCut the nonsense. Whatâs wrong with me?â
Kevin suppressed his sorrow and chuckled. âWhat could possibly be wrong with you? If anything, it might just be lovesickness!â
âKevin, do I appear foolish to you?â Bradleyâs gaze sharpened, his lips tinged with a faint purple hue.
âYour intellect surpasses mine by miles!â Kevin bent over to pick up the pillow, pretending to remain calm and composed, and sat down by Bradleyâs bedside. âItâs just a bit of blood in your vomit. Youâve been drinking heavily since last night. Who else would do that but you?â
Bradley scoffed.
âHow absurd,â he thought, his icy gaze locked onto Kevin and his rather awkward performance.
Kevin didnât dare to confront Bradleyâs stare head-on. Instead, he feigned interest in the contents of Bradleyâs IV bag and discreetly glanced at his phone.
In a chat group he had recently joined, someone had posted updates about Esther.
Kevin couldnât help but read the message.
âWhat? The Quills are organizing a reunion event for Esther? And itâs happening at the Royal Palace Hotel?!â Kevin exclaimed.
Before he could finish his sentence, Bradley snatched his phone and immediately saw the news.
