During the trial, Clarkâs testimony in support of Esther completely changed the course of the courtroom proceedings.
âEsther didnât offer me anything,â Clark replied honestly.
Bradley closed his eyes tightly and took a deep breath to control his anger. He clenched his teeth but managed to ask, âThen why did you testify in favor of Esther?â
âBradley, Iâm not a god. Iâm just an ordinary person.â Clark gazed calmly at Bradley, his tone gentle but firm. âYouâve mentioned that Esther betrayed you and caused pain to Mr. Warner. These are your reasons. But are they truly your own?â
Sitting across from Bradley, Clark thought about the late Thomas before speaking softly.âIf your grandfather could see you treating Esther like this, it would break his heart.
âYou accuse Esther of offering me incentives. Maybe the only thing she offered me is the chance to be part of Felixâs life as he grows up. Perhaps thatâs the âbenefitâ she provided.
âStarting today, I wonât involve myself in Warner Manorâs affairs.â
Clark rose slowly and placed a key on the table. His expression remained calm as he addressed the puzzled Bradley, âBradley, this is the key to the storage room.â
âWhy are you giving me this key?â
Clark replied, âWhen Esther was incarcerated, you asked me to dispose of her belongings. Instead, I stored everything in the storage room.â
Thomasâ deepest desire before his passing was for Bradley and Esther to find happiness together. That was why he had entrusted a significant portion of his shares to Esther and Bradleyâs child in his will.
Bradley was the child Clark had cared for as he grew up. He couldnât bear to see him make one mistake after another. âBradley, you owe Esther an apology.â
If it werenât for Bradleyâs insistence and relentless pursuit of Esther, perhaps she wouldnât have spent five years behind bars for a crime she never admitted to committing.
âFive years ago, you sent the woman carrying your children to prison, causing her to lose the most precious years of her youth. You at least owe her a sincere apology and should ask for her forgiveness.
âEsther may not choose to forgive you, but you are the one who was at fault. You should be the one who should apologize.
âI will stay with Felix in the future. If you wish to see him, reach out to me. I believe in Estherâs compassion. She wonât deny you a chance to meet Felix.â
With those words, Clark exited the room, maintaining his calm composure.
Five years ago, Esther had consistently been denying any involvement in tampering with Thomasâs oxygen mask. She had tirelessly been trying to reveal the truth to the world, to clear her name.
However, she had found herself isolated and helpless, her efforts falling on deaf ears, with no one believing her.
Bradley fixed his gaze on the key on the table, his slender fingers reaching out to grasp it. He stood in thought momentarily before taking slow steps toward the storage room door.
The storage room, located in the farthest corner of Warner Manor, rarely had visitors. Bradley had been unaware that Clark had defied his order five years ago by safeguarding all of Estherâs belongings in Warner Manor.
Bradley faced the old door, about to use his key. But suddenly, he pulled his hand back and swiftly left the storage room as if escaping from a terrifying creature.
Upon his return to the living room, a few servants were surprised at Bradleyâs swift return and were whispering amongst themselves.
âIt appears Madam wasnât responsible for disconnecting Mr. Warner Sr.âs oxygen mask after all!â
âSo, the real culprit was Liliane! I always had a bad feeling about her. Turns out sheâs a deceitful snake in human form.â
âMr. Searle has had feelings for Madam for years. Now that Mr. Warner is divorcing her, will Mr. Searle pursue her?â
âWait, look over there! Madam is holding roses, and Mr. Searle is kneeling on one knee! Itâs a proposal..
