SSteffan gazed at Xara without a word, his emotions hidden.
âThe doctor suggested a treatment plan. If we choose conservative treatment, Jacobâ¦â Xara paused, then hesitated, saying, âSo⦠should we go for in vitro fertilization?â
Steffan smirked, tauntingly responding, âXara, letâs simplify it further. Just give me your genes, and you wonât need to worry about anything else, right?â
âWhat do you mean, Steffan?â
Suddenly, Xara grasped his meaning, her emotions igniting. âAre you saying you still want a physical relationship with me?â
âXara, you should know your place after five years.â Steffan rose, advancing toward Xara. He observed her tense figure and spoke condescendingly. âOnce, you called me an animal. Now, I prefer being a man.â
âSteffan, what are you trying to say?â
Xara was confused. Could Steffan really be suggesting that? No, it seemed impossible. She couldnât agree with his idea.
However⦠were they really going to resort to in vivo fertilization?
âSteffan, our only goal now is to save Jacob. Can you please not be so impulsive?â
Steffan smirked and asked nonchalantly, âAnd?â
âIs it not a good idea for us to undergo in vitro fertilization? It doesnât inconvenience you at all. You just need toâ¦â
â
Xara was not mentally prepared to rekindle an intimate relationship with Steffan.
âNeed to what?â Steffan arched his brow. âXara, you should understand that many women are willing to have a child with me.â
Xaraâs gaze dimmed, her heart raced, and she felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
âYes, yes, yes. Youâre Steffan Sanderson. You can change women every day. But I only have Jacob as my son. I want him to liveâ¦.â
Steffan glanced at her coldly and said in a deep voice, âItâs you whoâs pleading with me now, understand?â
âSteffan, I beg you. Letâs go ahead with in vitro fertilization!â
Steffan suddenly put a safe distance between them as soon as Xara said that. He strode briskly toward the study door.
Gathering her courage from an unknown source, Xara hurried behind Steffan and tightly grasped his hand.
âSteffan, donât leave just yet. Letâs talk this out.â
Steffan stood straight, his expression still cold.
âYouâre unwilling to accept in vitro fertilization? Is it because you find it embarrassing? I can help youâ¦â
Steffan turned slightly, asking mockingly, âHelp me?â
she could accept âYes, I can help you.â Xara thought that this might be the most intimate way she could with Steffan. âI promise not to hurt you in the slightest.â
Steffan shook off Xaraâs hand and sat down on the sofa.
âProve it to me.â
Xara asked, alarmed, âNow?â
âXara, do you really think Iâd still lust after you after five years?â
Steffanâs words flustered Xara. She suddenly failed to discern the true meaning behind his actions and words. Despite that, she was ready to risk it for the sake of conceiving a child to save Jacob.
âAre you agreeing to undergo in vitro fertilization with me as long as I succeed?â
