Even if Pixie wasnât Estherâs own child, she couldnât bear to let that couple keep her.
âMs. Quill, I get your concerns, but you need to know our laws. You arenât Pixieâs biological family, so itâs tough for you to gain custody. The judge might consider Pixieâs disrupted surgery, too. As a dad, I suggest not getting too caught up in this. Itâs better to search for your daughter.â
Esther got the point, but how could she ignore Pixieâs situation?
âOfficer, will they keep raising Pixie?â she asked.
âTheir adoption process is completely legal, and Pixie sees them as her parents, isnât that right?â
âIâ¦â Suddenly, Esther felt powerless. She wanted to rescue Pixie, but she couldnât figure out how.
âWhat if they keep using Pixieâs organs for their own child?â
The police officer assured Esther, âIâll keep an eye on them. You should step out of this and focus on finding your daughter.â
Esther could hear the laughter and joy coming from inside the room. Pixie seemed extremely happy, unlike when she saw Esther. The sound of two little girls playing echoed from the room.
âMs. Quill, look how happily their family is playing together. Why do you want to be the villain and forcibly separate them?â
Esther smiled bitterly and glanced at Anna. After a long silence, she said, âI understand. Anna, letâs go.â
The police officer handed Esther his card and said, âMs. Quill, this is my card. If you still want to find your daughter, you can contact me. I can also help you keep an eye out. I hope you and your daughter can be reunited soon.â
âThank you.â Esther gratefully accepted the business card.
Esther realized that there were good and bad people in the world. Not everyone she met was completely bad. There were also righteous individuals like the police officer who were working to make the world a better place.
Despite that, where was her own child? Esther felt like a small boat adrift at sea, always facing storms no matter which direction she turned.
Shortly after Esther and Anna left, the police officer took out his phone and dialed an unsaved number.
âBoss, Ms. Quill left.â
The police officer finished reporting Estherâs departure and returned to his duty. He heard laughter and joy coming from the hospital room, and he thought of his son, who was also one of the beneficiaries.
He understood Estherâs desire to find her daughter, but he and the other beneficiaries just wanted their children to live peacefully and safely.
Moreover, the adopted children were all homeless orphans. The beneficiaries had provided them with a true, warm home, hadnât they?
Esther and Anna left the hospital.
Esther stood at the entrance, gazing at the distant building. She took a deep breath and dialed Bradleyâs number on her phone.
The ringing call echoed like the Grim Reaperâs steps in her heart.
âBradley Warner speaking.â
Upon hearing Bradleyâs chilly voice, Esther asked with resentment, âBradley, where is my daughter?â
âDonât you want to know?â Bradley said arrogantly. âKneel before me and beg.â
