The doctor had never imagined being so grateful for the blaring alarmâs sound. The moment it went off, he felt liberated.
Seeing the doctor hesitate, the man couldnât control his emotions. He rushed forward, seized the scalpel from the stunned doctor, and was about to make a harsh incision on Pixie.
Ignoring the gun in his hand, Esther charged forward like a lioness protecting her cub, knocking the man off balance.
Terrified by Estherâs fearless charge, the man tackled her to the ground, still holding the scalpel and aiming for her chest.
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out.
The manâs arm, holding, the scalpel, was struck, causing it to fly out of his grasp. Warm blood splattered onto Estherâs face, and she instinctively closed her eyes, her face pale with fear.
âTake him away!â The police had finally arrived.
Anna rushed over and helped Esther up from the ground, her trembling hands wiping the blood from Estherâs face with a handkerchief.
âEsther, are you okay?â she asked.
Esther nodded. âIâm fine.â
Anna thought with relief, âOh, thank goodness. If the police hadnât arrived in time, the consequences would have been unthinkable.â
With Annaâs help, Esther walked over to Pixie. They had arrived just in the nick of time.
Pixie had only been anesthetized, and the surgery had not yet begun. The surgery would have already started if they had been a few minutes later.
The police handcuffed the man and led him past Esther. He glared at her with intense hatred. Esther felt his gaze and instinctively looked back at him.
Esther was startled by the manâs hateful gaze. Instinctively, she tightened her grip on Pixieâs hand and defiantly said, âYou may resort to despicable means for your daughterâs sake, but I will do everything in my power for mine!â
The man gritted his teeth. âSheâs not your daughter.â
âSo what if sheâs not my daughter? Does that give you the right to freely take her organs?â Estherâs voice brimmed with anger. âSheâs a living person. Just because you want your daughter to live, does it justify disregarding the lives of others? What right do you have to deprive her of her right to live in this world!?â
âWhat do you know? Iâm only taking one of her kidneys! She still has one left. It wonât affect her life,â
the man retorted. âIâll give her a life of luxury, let her live like a princess-
anger and âStop, donât try to justify yourself!â Estherâs voice trembled with a mix of frustration. âYou just want to keep her by your side. You can take other organs from her whenever your daughter needs them to keep her alive!â
The man sneered. âDo you know how much youâve ruined my plans? Iâm waiting for your retribution!â
His words took Esther aback.
Retribution? Why would she face retribution? The one who deserved retribution was the mant who treated othersâ lives as if they meant nothing.
As the one who had called the police, Esther had to give a statement. During their car ride, they discussed that she should take full responsibility to avoid negative repercussions on the Sandersons.
She had to face the consequences alone.
The police helped Esther take Pixie to a public hospital.
Anna observed Esther by Pixieâs side and gently reminded, âEsther, do you want to take this opportunity to do a DNA test with Pixie?â
