Billyâs conviction began to waver after his daughter convinced him otherwise.
âDad, why donât you go freshen up? Iâll ask the caretakers to clean the place and prepare a nice meal for you.â
Billy held her hand and gently inquired, âDo you think Iâm completely useless, Liliane?â
âNo, Dad. Youâre the best father in the world.â
âBut⦠I couldnât save Esther.â
Being an old man who didnât surf the Internet, it was natural that Billy was unaware of Estherâs sacrifice to prove her innocence. Instead, he still believed Esther was living with Bradley!
âDad, everything that happened to Esther is not your fault.â
Agitated, Billy waved his hand and exclaimed, âHow can it not be my fault? Esther is being held captive by Bradley right now! Donât you think heâs a madman, Liliane?â
Liliane feigned ignorance and asked, âWhat? I thought Esther already took her own life to prove her innocence?â
âWhat? She took her own life!?â Billy exclaimed.
Liliane quickly took out her cellphone and played Estherâs video for him, instantly awakening him.
Unable to accept the truth, Billy watched the video repeatedly.
âEsther⦠Sheâsâ¦
âSheâs dead?â
Billy couldnât bring himself to believe that Esther was already gone.
He slapped himself violently, forcing himself to wake up from the intense pain. Only then did he fully comprehend the reality of Estherâs death.
âBradley⦠You murderer!â
Liliane consoled him, saying, âI thought you drank so much because you found out about what happened to Esther⦠You should go freshen up first.â
With that, Billy headed upstairs to clean himself up.
Liliane gazed at the villa, which remained unchanged, yet everything seemed unfamiliar to her at that moment.
âNo place feels like home without Momâ¦â
For a moment, Liliane thought about her mother, feeling a stronger connection to Leah, her biological mother, than to Billy.
When the dishes were ready, Liliane personally brought out a few plates.
âDad, have some angel hair pasta. It will help after youâve consumed so much alcohol.â
Billyâs eyes turned red as he choked. âThis is all my fault⦠I failed to protect her.â
Lilianeâs eyes welled up with tears, too. âThis is my fault as well, Dad. I used to believe that Estherâs mother ruined your relationship with Mom, which is why I treated her so poorly. If I had known who she really was, I would never haveâ¦â
Billy looked at Liliane and recalled the things Leah had done to him in the past. While half awake, he had been able to accept Lilianeâs advances. But now, after learning about Estherâs death, he couldnât longer tolerate Lilianeâs presence.
âLeave everything as it is and go!â
Lilianeâs expression turned cold, but she left the documents on the table before departing with her caretakers.
After driving away from the villa for over ten minutes, Liliane thought, âIt should have taken effect by now.â
Liliane had meticulously followed the mysterious manâs instructions and laced Billyâs food with a certain drug.
Liliane instructed her caretaker to drive her back to the villa fifteen minutes later. âStop! Turn back!â
âDadâ¦â
Upon rushing inside, Liliane immediately saw Billy lying on the ground.
âQuick! Call an ambulance!â
