The lackeyâs misfortune was simply a stroke of bad luck. He had unwittingly accepted favors from Shane and helped him with a small task, never expecting to encounter such trouble.
While tailing Clark, he had a minor accident involving the bald manâs car. As a result, he was taken by several intimidating individuals to a place where he had no choice but to participate in a night of relentless games. If he was slow, he would be beaten If he played the wrong cards, he would be beaten. Even if he won, he would still be beatenâ¦.â
It was easy to imagine that not only did he lose all his money, but he also ended up borrowing a significant sum. He swore never to play cards again in his life! The mere sight of cards made him nauseous.
After a while, the bald man, lighting a cigarette, spoke with a sinister look. âYouâre Shaneâs lackey. You must know the wicked things heâs done!â
Nervously, the lackey replied, âI donât know!â
âSay it again. I didnât hear you clearly.â
The bald man extinguished his cigarette with a menacing gaze, causing the lackey to be on the verge of wetting his pants.
After contemplating for a moment, he finally said, âI genuinely donât know what heâs done. If you donât believe me, go investigate. I was released from prison this year, and my family gave money to Shane, so he arranged for me to have a reduced sentence. Just think about it, Iâm a newcomer. Shane wouldnât trust me with any illegal activities, would he?â
When the bald man captured Shaneâs lackey, they had already conducted a background check and most of what he said was true.
âIf Shane inquires about the surveillance, how will you respond?â
The lackey was at a loss. Even if he was foolish, he knew that telling the truth would surely result in his demise. âSir, can you please tell me what to say?â
The lackey cautiously glanced at Clark and the bald man after speaking.
The bald man gave him an approving look and said, âJust say he went gambling and accumulated a substantial amount of debtâ¦â
The lackey nodded repeatedly, feeling bitter inside. Wasnât that describing himself?
Clark spoke coldly. âNow go back to Shaneâs side and gather evidence of his crimes for us.â
âMe?â The lackey nervously said, âI canât engage in any illegal activities!â
âIsnât stalking someone illegal?â The bald man ominously listed the criminal charges against the lackey, each one causing him to tremble with fear.
He weakly asked, âIf I do it and get caught later, can you testify that I did it to redeem myself?â
âDo you have the right to negotiate?â
âNo, Iâll do it.â
Although the lackey didnât know the full extent of Shaneâs criminal activities, he was well aware that as the director of a prison hospital, Shane wouldnât have been able to arrange for his early release without resorting to questionable mearis.
If he continued down the wrong path with Shane, he would likely spend the rest of his life in prison. In any case, he consoled himself and decided to side with justice.
âNow, get lost!â
Feeling dizzy and weak, the lackey stumbled out of the gambling parlor. As he gazed up at the ordinary facade, he felt as if he had just returned from hell.
He settled back into the car, plugged in his phone to charge, and noticed an incoming call from Shane.
Clearing his throat, he mustered the energy to return the call.
Seeing the call was from the lackey, Shane answered and immediately launched into a furious scolding.
The exhausted lackey, leaning against the genuine leather seat, weakly explained, âThe owner of that car went into a gambling parlor last night. I followed him inside to investigate, but my phone ran out of battery.â
Shane suppressed his anger and asked, âWhat did you find out?â
âHe has accumulated a significant amount of gambling debt.â
