[COLE'S POV]
I'm surprised that Charlie didn't figure that I was listening in. Or maybe she did but just chose to ignore it.
I had to fight to keep in a growl when I heard that someone else thought that Charlie was their mate. But when I heard the panic in my mates voice, I let the growl out freely.
At this the door opened and out came a worried looking Charlie. I ran up to her as fast as I could, pulling her into a tight hug.
"Can't.... breathe!" She squeaked.
After putting her down and apologizing I gave her a hard look.
"What?" she asked seeming irritated.
"Note? Is this what you Connor and Tyler about?" I grit my teeth at Tyler's name. He seems to be pretty close to her. To anyone on the outside, it would appear that they are dating.
"Yes. He's kinda, sorta, maybe my stalker."
"How long?"
"A year and a half. Give or take."
"Why didn't you tell me about this?" Didn't she trust me?
"Because. You'd get guards to watch the whole territory, special ones for me, and more patrol outside my room. All of which are unnecessary!" she lets out a heavy breath.
"They're all for your own good. I love you, even if you don't love me, and I can't let anything happen to you."
"It's not that I don't love you. I do, but I don't. It's so complicated, that I just wanna jump off a bridge!" she groans in frustration.
She looks so pained that I can't help it, I lean down, and kiss her smack dab on the lips.
Her legs instantly wind around my waist and her hands begin to play with my hair, almost like she was expecting it, waiting for it.
As our tongues dance a furious tango, I hear a needy moan escape her mouth, sending tingles of pleasure to make their way down my back.
"Alpha!" a voice pierces the silence causing Charlie to jump back on surprise.
"What?" I yell pissed off that someone had ruined such a perfect moment.
"Rogues, sir. They're attacking the North border. Fifty of them when I left. Maybe more now." he stated, breathless.
Rogues, uh-oh. Rogues are wolves that have left or been banished from their pack. They are horrid looking and their scent is worse. Their fur is dirty, and dull. Their eyes lifeless.
But the worst thing about them, being that they have an urge to destroy packs. Like they are attempting on mine.
Dumb asses. They really shouldn't have picked a fight with strongest pack in the world.
"Charlie. I need you to go get all of the women, children and injured into the safe house. After that, go through the pack house and check if anyone has been missed. When you are finished head down to the safe house yourself."
"Cole I want to he-" I cut her off.
"I'm not loosing you again. And inform the rest of the pack to the situation and location. Now, go!" I ordered in my alpha tone.
"Yes, Alpha." she said sarcastically and ran off.
"Lets go" I said to the man who had warned me, Aaron. He was one of our warriors. He was an excellent fighter.
As I reached the woods on the outskirts of the house, I shifted into my grey wolf.
I let out a howl, telling all the men to prepare for battle and for all the women to get the children into the safe house.
I hear many howls in return.
I begin to run towards the north border which is a good ten minutes away.
As I approach I hear growls, and snarls, and whimpers.
I look past the trees in front of me to find a small clearing. It was a beautiful clearing, filled with flowers, and soft grass.
To bad it's beauty was tarnished by the hell breaking loose within it. Flowers were stained red with the blood of fallen warriors. The grass kicked up as more rogues fall to the ground, dead.
The pack appeared to be winning, but more rogues were coming. I launched forward and took out two rogues who had doubled up on me. I continued to prance around to various outnumbered pack members, and killing as many rogues as possible. More and more rogues came but when my whole group of warriors came along the rogues were clearly outnumbered.
We finished off the rest of the enemy and bolted home, to relish in our victory.
As I approach home, my stomach twists, something isn't right. I look around to see if any rogues had slipped past us and are hiding in the shadows.
"Alpha!" I turn to see Linda, one of my warriors wives.
"Yes?" I ask cautiously, she looks very worried.
"She was supposed I come down but she didn't! The kitchen! The feral animals didn't even shift! The poor girl didn't have a chance, course the blood isn't hers so she must have put up one hell of a fight. There were three!"
"Who?"
"Charlie! They took her!"
"What?" I growl.
I started shaking, but then stop when it all actually made sense. The rogue attack was a distraction. They lucked out that I left Charlie behind.
I was the reason that my mate is gone.
My mate is gone.
My mate is gone.
