"And then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like a snail
Unwilling to go to school....."
EARLY CHILDHOOD: THE EARLY STAGE OF GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. IN STAGE THEY LEARN QUICKLY AND GENERALLY ARE HAPPY. THEY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THEIR EMOTIONS AND ARE EASILY DISTRACTED. SCHOOLING STARTS IN THIS PERIOD.MOST KIDS ARE UNWILLING TO GO TO SCHOOL BUT ONCE THEIR THEY SOCIALIZE WELL.
As soon as the shrill of bell was heard kids ran out of the school gates into the awaiting arms of their guardians. A little girl of five stood near the gates her eyes wandering around as if looking for someone, seeing her standing there the guard said "Your parents must be late, stay here.... they'll come soon."
The little girl stood there waiting for her mummy to come , as the time passed no one came for her and the guard was worried, he asked for her name and other whereabouts' but the girl stood there not uttering a word. This behavior made the guard even more worried, he was about to go and inform in office about the girl when a woman came. She sat on her knees in front of the child and hugged the child tightly, she showered the child in gentle kisses and asked if she was okay? To which the child replied "Where's daddy?"
As soon as the child asked the question the woman presumably her mother stood from her previously kneed down position and took the girls little hand in hers and said "We'll talk later when we reach home okay. " The little girl nodded her head lowly.
"Thank you" mother said to the guard.
"No problem, it's actually my job" Guard replied "Though it's not my business to interfere but you should be more responsible ma'am the child has been waiting for nearly three hours..." he added further.
"I know, it's just that her his sister was supposed to pick her up today, since I was a bit busy and she forgot. I came to get her as soon as I could but I was out of city it took me some time. But anyways thanks a lot , it means a lot. " She told the guard and left with the girl.
As soon as they reached home they little girl again asked "Where's Daddy?"
The mother shook her head and looked at her daughter sadly and said "First , you change clothes and eat something , then we'll talk okay."
"But mommy" the girl started but the mother cuts her "No buts missy you do as mommy says or else mommy won't tell you, now tell me what do you want to do?"
The little girl went towards her room, changed her clothes and went to the dining area quietly. She ate her food in silence.
{Mother's pov}
The mother watched her little girl with a sad expression, she couldn't bear to see her little girl who was always filled with excitement, be this low and sad but what could she do?
It hurt her to see her daughter act sullen especially now when she should be dancing with joy, after all it's her Birthday tomorrow.
She didn't mind that he was not here for their twentieth anniversary but their daughter's fifth birthday meant something but what could she do, she can't be selfish. She can't ask him to leave everything and come celebrate his daughter's birthday, well she could... but not with the type of job he was in.
Being in army is not easy, no matter what position you work on. Not only is it hard for the soldier but his family suffers too. Its not that kind of job from which you can back off when you desire, it requires dedication. That was something her husband had quite too much, he's a dedicated person to his country as well as his family but today when they both need him she can't ask him to leave his troop behind and be with his family.
She was not selfish and that is something that her kids need to learn, especially her younger daughter because not every family is same and not all jobs are same. Her friends may have their daddy on their birthdays but she can't always have what she wants. She needs to learn these thing, even feel hurt cause it is what makes you strong enough to survive. Facing cruel realities is something that her girl must learn, as they always won't be there to protect her.
It was then and there she decided that she'll tell her daughter that her Daddy won't be able to come.
As she stood before her daughter's room she can't help but feel hopeless , no matter how she strong she deemed herself to be, moments like these... make her feel a failure as a mother. No matter how little the father-daughter have time to bond, their bond is better then the mother-daughter. The little girl hardly sees her father and it's her, her mother that does everything. It's her who tucks her in bed, braids her hair, reads her bedtime stories but the little girl always loves her father more.
There is no denying that fact, after all she's her Daddy's little warrior. She smiles at the thought and moves in the room to see her daughter sleeping peacefully, holding the doggy that her daddy brought her.
She switches off the lights in her room, her baby's little figure illuminated by the lamp above her child's bed and a soft but sad smile comes over her face. She turns to leave the room only to hear her daughter mumble in her sleep "daddy" .
A lone tear escapes her eye and she leaves the room.
Instead of going in the room she moves to the balcony with her phone in her hand and calls her husband.
The phone rings and rings some more but no one picks it up. A sigh escapes her and she hangs her head lowly and moves towards her room and waits for the sleep to come over.
As the rays of morning sun came over her face she shook her head as if by doing so they'll go away.
"Mom wake up" she heard someone say as they continued to poke her , she gently shook and then she slowly opened her eyes and saw her elder teenage daughter look towards her.
"What time is it?" mother asked her teen daughter.
"Six in the morning" the young teen replied. "Daddy's not coming is he?" she asked somewhat hesitantly.
The teen was used to of not seeing her daddy often and she wasn't bothered much because of it but her sister on other hand was way too much young to know and understand.
"No, his leave application was taken back. He was coming but the emergency..." mother left the statement hanging.
"You don't have to explain it to me mum, I know well how it works."
"I know you do but your sister doesn't"
"Come on mum don't be so gloomy, it's a happy day" the teen tried cheering her mother "and mom Happy marriage anniversary" she added while handing her mother a beautifully wrapped gift.
"What's this sweetie?"
"Open it and see for yourself."
"Oh My God! its beautiful child how did you......?" the mother said as she hugged her daughter and wore the beautiful and delicate watch that her child brought her.
"Doesn't matter mum.. I m so happy you like it"
"Like it child!, I love it!" The mother exclaimed and the teen cheered.
"Come on mum get ready, we have a birthday party to plan for."
The mother got ready and dressed her little girl for school for which the little child was reluctant. For the first time, her little baby who didn't even shed tear on her first day of school , who was always eager to go to school was reluctant to go to school and she knew why but she couldn't do anything to cheer her sullen child.
In her birthday party too the little girl was not enjoying, not one bit. Even though she was in a crowd of family and friends she felt alone. Being a child she was unable to hide her emotions and add stubbornness to the mix and... you get disaster.
{Third person pov}
It was when she refused to cut the cake that all things went to hell, her mother snapped. She had been trying really hard to make the little girl happy and was doing everything in her power for the same but as said like father like daughter, this little girl is as stubborn as her father if not more.
When she refused to cut cake without her father , the mother snapped and on impulse she raised her hand but was able to stop herself as she saw tears starting to form in the girl's eyes and she ran towards her room as fast as her little feet took her.
The little girl was horrified she wanted the only thing that could comfort her, her father but alas! he was not here.
She opened her closet and took out a shirt, her father's shirt to be precise and wrapped herself within it. As the shirt covered her, a sense of belonging and comfort seeped within her. She felt at home, at peace.
She felt as if it was father hugging her, comforting her and at that moment she let the tears falls. She cried and cried more until no tears were left and sleep took over.
It was in that position, that her father found her; hugging her knees, wearing his shirt that was still wet with tears , her eyes swollen a proof she had cried badly and sitting in a corner of her closet. His heart clenched as he took in his daughter's appearance and her position and only thought that escaped him was "Please be fine my child, Daddy loves you."
As he took her little figure in his hand he couldn't help the lone tear that escaped his eyes and landed on his daughter's cheek. He laid her on her bed and gently stroked her head as a result of it she sighed, a smile covered his features. "My Innocent Baby" he thought .
As his hand grazed to remove the fallen tear off her face the little girl woke up.
Sleepily she addressed him "daddy..."
"yes my child" as if hearing him reply to her woke her inside up, She woke up from slumber and she shouted on top of her lungs..
"DADDY ..... YOU ARE HERE , YOU'RE REALLY HERE. YOU'RE REALLY HOME DADDY!!!"
"Yes, Yes i am really here. Daddy is home now...." and with that he hugged his little warrior and sleep overtook them.
