âSon or daughterâ¦â Enenâs eyes softened. âI never thought about it.â
Yet it was as if he absolutely needed to know an answer, his eyebrows knitting together again as he pressed, âYou have to think about it. Do you want a son or a daughter?â
âWhy do I have to choose one?â It wasnât like betting big or small, with a prize for guessing right.
Beijue simply couldnât calm down whenever he thought about what he had seen that evening, especially when facing this question. It was like a drowning man desperately grasping for a straw! Right now, Enen was that straw!
âThereâs no reason, just choose one.â
Unable to argue with him, Enen thought he was just being stubborn again. After thinking it over, she said, âIf I have to choose, then a daughter.â
Beijueâs eyebrows suddenly pinched together, his falcon-like eyes becoming darker and more brooding. He stared at her with such force it was as if she had committed a grave offence, âYou donât like sons?â
âOf course I do. Baby Chi wants a younger sister.â
âIâm asking you, never mind what he wants!â he said irritably, rising to his feet and squinting his falcon-like eyes.@@novelbin@@
Damn! What did Baby Chi wanting a sister have to do with her wanting to have a daughter?! The point wasnât what Baby Chi wanted, but what she wanted!
His irritability was too obvious, and Enen couldnât help but worry. Her bright eyes looked at him, filled with concern, âBeijue, has something happened?â
ââ¦Nothing happened.â The man with the handsome face awkwardly avoided her gaze for the first time, then abruptly emphasized, âI like sons.â
Why did he keep circling back to this question? Enen really didnât understand what was going on.
But Beijue clenched his fist, looked back into her eyes with unwavering determination, and with rosy thin lips touched together declared, âEnen, have a son for me.â
He didnât want a daughter, nor did he want the bun in her stomach to be a daughter.
It wasnât a matter of preference, but rather that he couldnât bear the risk.
More clearly, he knew that if she were pregnant with a daughter, she would never accept that outcome!
So he wanted a son, he had to have a son! A son just like Baby Chi!
He reached out to touch Enenâs still flat abdomen, not yet showing signs of pregnancy, dropped another bombshell, âOnce this child is born, Iâm getting sterilized!â
âSterilized?â Enen blurted out in surprise. Surely it wasnât the sterilization she was thinking of?
Beijue gave her a confirmative answer, âYes, sterilization! We wonât have any more. Two is enough!â
He couldnât possibly bear to abstain from making love to her, and without sterilization, there was always the possibility of Enen becoming pregnant again. And pregnancy meant the possibility of having a daughter. He had to eliminate that possibility at its root.
He could afford to provide for a daughter with a rare disease, at worst seeking the best doctors and using the best Medication to do everything possible to cure her.
But the 50% chance of the disease passing to the mother through the blood while in the womb, he simply couldnât bear that risk!
If anything happened to Enen, heâd rather have killed that child from the start!
âBeijue, whatâs really going on with you?â
He kept a stern face, enunciating each word, âNothingâs going on. I just want you to have a son for me. Having children is too risky, and having two sons is enough. I donât want you to take any more risks, so Iâve decided to get sterilized.â
ââ¦â Enen felt something was seriously off, very off. But she couldnât pinpoint what it was. Even if Kim Zhiyuan used her pregnancy to threaten him, what did it have to do with her having a boy or a girl? Why was he so insistent on having a boy or a girl?
Could it be that he had a traditional preference for boys over girls? Had Kim Zhiyuan also told him she might be pregnant with a daughter, causing his restlessness and his constant emphasis on wanting a son?
