Chi Enen was jolted awake by pain in the middle of the night.
A dull ache in her lower abdomen had pulled her out of her dreams and into consciousness.
Strangeâ¦
Why does my stomach hurt this much?
Chi Enen gritted her teeth, pushed herself up from the bed, and realized it was pitch-dark outside. She had no idea what time it was and wanted to turn on the light to check the time. However, a sudden twist of pain in her abdomen made her arm slip, knocking the water cup on the nightstand onto the ground.
The glass water cup shattered with a crisp, clear soundâ
Then with a bang, the bedroom door was violently flung open, and a figure accompanied by a gust of cold air rushed in front of her like a whirlwind, pressing down on her shoulders, his voice urgent, âChi Enen, whatâs wrong?â
âLi Beijue, youâre back?â she was stunned for a moment.
Wasnât he overseas?
Hadnât Butler Huo said it would take him three days to return?
How could he have returned so quickly?
âIâm asking you whatâs wrong? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?â
Damn it!
He switched on the bedside lamp, and the bedroom was instantly as bright as daylight. He also got a clear view of the little ladyâs pale and weak face.
His eyebrows knit tighter together, and he growled impatiently, âIâm taking you to the hospital!â
As he said this, he was about to pick her up.
Chi Enen blinked and finally came back to her senses, avoiding him by moving backward while enduring the discomfort in her abdomen, âNo need, I just have a bit of a headache.â
If she admitted her stomach hurt, he would definitely make a big deal out of it.
âJust a headache?â
âYeah.â
ââ¦â Li Beijue still had a dark expression on his handsome face, his powerful arms forcefully picked her up from the bed and carried her all the way to the living room.
Then he placed her on the sofa, ordering her, âSit tight, donât get down.â
He turned to get a cup of warm water and handed it to her, âTake it.â
Chi Enen took the water cup and took a sip.
The warm liquid traveled down her throat and warmed her stomach. Maybe it was because her stomach had warmed up that the pain seemed to subside a little.
She lowered her head and took another small sip, her pale lips finally gaining a bit of color.
While she sipped water sip by sip, the tall man standing beside her suddenly spoke up, âIâve heard about what happened with Gu Qiaomei.â
ââ¦â Chi Enen paused in her actions and looked up.
Li Beijueâs gaze fell on her hand that involuntarily tightened its grip on the water cup, his stare growing colder. He abruptly snatched the cup from her hand, tossing it aside, then sat down on the sofa and pulled her into his arms.
Her body was soft and tender, and it still carried the natural fragrance from her bath. Li Beijueâs tensed face relaxed a little; one hand held hers, while the other firmly encircled her in his embrace, continuing, âChi Enen, you are not allowed to be in a bad mood!â
âPfft!â His command made Chi Enen not know whether to laugh or to cry, unable to help but retort, âItâs not like I can control whether Iâm in a good mood or not.â
âI donât care, you just canât be in a bad mood!â He was just as domineering as ever, as tyrannical as a despot.
Chi Enen looked desolate but still managed to force a slight smile and said, âI was just wondering if Iâm too heartlessâ¦â
No sooner had she finished her sentence than her cheeks were abruptly seized without mercy!
âUmm!â He was rough, and Chi Enenâs protests came out in muffled sounds as she reached up to pull on his hand, seemingly in disbelief that he would treat her this way when she was already in such a bad mood.
Li Beijue stubbornly did not let go, and it wasnât until he had pinched her pale cheeks to a blush that he finally released his hold. Grasping the back of her head, which tried to dodge away, he suddenly lowered his head, locking eyes with Chi Enen, his searing breath spraying on her face.
