As soon as she came downstairs, Melissa immediately saw Miranda approaching impatiently.
She had a slightly haughty look on her face. Although she kept throwing Tanyaâs business in Melissaâs face, she asked stiffly, âHave you prepared the money?â
Melissa took the bank card Nora had given her and smiled softly, âI only have a little over $300,000 here. Letâs use that first.â
Instantly, Miranda pursed her lips in disdain and said, âJust a little over $300,000? How much more than $300,000 is that?â
The additional money was from Noraâs bank card.
However, Melissa hadnât gone to the ATM to confirm the balance, so she nonchalantly replied, âAbout $20,000, I guess.â
After all, surgeons were still earning quite a bit. However, Nora was still young, so there was no way she was making that much. There was probably only about $20,000 on the card, at best.
Miranda scorned her even more after her answer. She said, âSo little? Are you kidding me? If it werenât for your big brother being afraid youâre having a hard time and insisting that we let you make some money with us, I wouldnât even bother coming here. And yet you patronize us with only $300,000? Are you looking down on us?â
Melissa clenched her fists. âMiranda, you are aware of the situation my family is in. We depend on the Rest Pill to revive the business, so all of our working capital has gone to production costs. All we have is this $300,000 here.â
Miranda scoffed and said, âIf I were you, I would mortgage the house and borrow $3,000,000.â
The townhouse was built in an excellent downtown location. Housing prices in New York had skyrocketed in recent years, so it was now worth $15 million.
Indeed, it was very easy to borrow $3,000,000 if they mortgaged the house.

As soon as she said that, Miranda scolded her, âIf you invest $3,000,000, you can make at least half that amount! $300,000? Itâs too embarrassing to bring up a pittance like that! Whatâs the use of even making $150,000? You canât even buy a slightly better purse with that! If you want to make money, then mortgage your house. Otherwise, forget it!â.
The slender Melissa stood up straight and erect. Hearing Mirandaâs words, she slowly said, âIf thatâs the way it is, then it doesnât matter.â
If it werenât for the fact that her older brother had called her personally and told her that he wanted to let her earn some pocket money along with him and that the children would need money for many things now that they were all olderâ¦. In particular, Sheril was a child, but she couldnât even bear to spend on a nice purseâ¦.. If it werenât for that, she would never submit to her sister-in-lawâs obnoxious attitude.
But why would she allow Miranda to come and bully them?
In reality, Miranda just wanted to embarrass her and see her put her head down for help. She didnât think Melissa would actually refuse to invest.
She immediately scoffed and said, âWell done! Youâre really tough, arenât you, havenât you always thought little of money since you were a little girl? The Woods may be able to support a delicate woman like you, but can the Andersons? I hear you canât even bear to use premium paper for your paintings now! If it werenât that your brother canât stand to see you live in such poverty, do you think weâre so free to let you make money off us?â
It was that haughty, arrogant look again.
And that attitude and tone as if she were being charitableâ¦.
Melissa suddenly raised her head and looked straight at her. âYouâ¦â
But before she could finish, a cold voice reached them. âMy aunt doesnât need your sympathy.â
The two women were taken aback. They looked up to see Nora coming down the steps. She looked at Melissa, then said slowly and lazily, âAunt Melissa, you can come to me if you want to earn some pocket money. You donât have to ask others for help.â
Melissa was a little surprised.
As for Miranda, she frowned and said, âYou talk a lot for your age! Do you know what weâre investing in?â
Nora raised an eyebrow.
Well, she didnât know.
As she thought about it, she heard Miranda ask, âHave you heard of the Loweâs?â
The Lowes? The family Whitney Lowe married into?
Nora didnât even need to answer, because Miranda had already gone on alone and said, âItâs obvious from the looks of you that you donât know them. The Hunts started as a real estate company, but aside from them, the Lowes are also a family that started as a real estate company! The Loweâs have bought a large piece of land in New York, but since they canât afford it all by themselves at the moment â although they are also reluctant to take out a huge loan from the bank â they are asking some other families they know, like us, if we are interested in joining them!
Real estate has been a hugely profitable sector in recent years. The profits are there for all to see. The Woods have wanted to expand into real estate for many years, but the field has unfortunately been monopolized by the Hunts and the Lowes all this time. But now we finally have a chance to make a fortune.â
Miranda looked at the two after she finished.
Real estate was extremely profitable. Those two must be full of regrets now, right?
But unexpectedlyâ¦
Melissa had already known about it for a while, so she didnât seem surprised. However, the young Nora was also expressionlessâ¦.
Miranda frowned.
She considered that she was probably uninformed about real estate.
When Melissa saw that Nora had gone quiet, she said, âMiranda, I appreciate that my older brother is concerned about my welfare, but if you continue to be so aggressive, this will turn into a dispute. I only have a little over $300,000 here. If you want to help us and let us invest, then go ahead. If not, then take it as Iâm not meant to participate in the investment!â
After speaking, she held out her and Noraâs bank cards to Miranda.
Miranda didnât dare go too far. After all, she too would be in trouble if Melissa complained to her older brother.
She snorted and held out her arm as she said, âFine, make it $300,000, thenâ¦â.
However, a fair, slender hand suddenly snatched the two cards from Melissaâs hand.
Miranda, ââ¦â
Melissa was also taken aback.
Nora stared at the bank cards in her hand and flashed Melissa a smile. She said, âAunt Melissa, if you trust me, let me make you some pocket money with this $300,000.â
Real estate was finished.
If they actually used the money, they probably wouldnât even be able to recoup their capital for years to come.
Miranda was so furious that she laughed instead. âWell, since thatâs what you say, then forget it! It seems to me that our goodwill has been taken with ill intent.â
She stormed off angrily.
In any case, she could answer her husband when she got home. Not that she wasnât trying to help, but her younger sister had been taken in by the niece they had just brought home. She had taken the money and gone off to do God knows what with it.
When Melissa wanted to ask Nora about it after Miranda left, Nora had already gone upstairs with two bank cards.
Melissa, ââ¦â
Never mind. Anyway, $300,000 wasnât much. If Nora lost the money, she would just treat it as if she had been given some money to practice investing!
At noon the next day.
Nora immediately heard the dispute downstairs as soon as she woke up.
âHow can you be so bamboozled? $300,000 may not be a lot, but how can you just give it to him, how is he going to make you money?â
The speaker was a man who looked somewhat like Melissa, except he had a stern look on his face.
Melissa sighed and said, âFarrell, it looks like Nora trades stocks.â
âStocks?â Farrell Wood, Melissaâs older brother, chided, âAre you crazy? Has she bought them yet?â
Farrell grabbed his cell phone. âWhat have you bought? Iâm going to check the market today.â
Melissa was about to say she didnât know when the corners of Noraâs lips curved upward and she replied unhurriedly, âThe stock code is 00083.â
Farrell frowned and punched the stock code into his cell phone as he said, âGet the money out of the stock immediately! The stock has been plummeting lately. Theyâre both really crazyâ¦â
However, his words ended abruptly at that moment.
