Caleb was obviously stunned at her words. It seemed he had never considered the suggestion. He frowned and asked, “Would you be able to cure me?”.

Caleb had multiple personality disorder. Simply put, he had schizophrenia.

Nora had indeed cured someone of it before.

She nodded. “Yes, I can.”

Caleb was silent for a long moment before finally asking, “To what extent can you be cured?”

Nora thought for a while and then replied, “If nothing goes wrong, I can keep Trueman from coming back.”

Caleb was silent.

He let out a small sigh and said, “In that case, we can’t do it yet.”

“Why?” asked Nora in surprise.

Caleb resignedly replied, “Because only Trueman knows where V16 is. So far, I haven’t found any information about V16.”

Nora nodded. “Don’t worry about it. Mental illness is not something that can be cured overnight. It takes time. I can start with the preparations for you first.”

After Caleb nodded, he sighed again and said, “Actually, it doesn’t matter if I get cured or not.”

He looked down and said, “When I get the V16, I’ll give it to Xander. I won’t use it myself. When Xander gets the last remaining V16, I will die. So it doesn’t matter if I heal or not. And if the three of us can’t outwit Trueman, he’ll become very strong when the V16 is injected. By then, I’m afraid you won’t be able to treat me anymore.”

Nora was about to convince him to agree to medical treatment when Caleb said, “But we can still try to get you treated. For now, it’s enough that I can show up more often and occupy the body longer. That way, it will also be comfortable for me to look for clues.”

Nora breathed a sigh of relief. “Yes.”

After a while, the new person in charge of the kitchen that Harry had found brought them the food prepared for Xander. Xander looked at Caleb and began to dutifully sink his teeth into it. Xander seemed exceptionally distant towards Caleb.

Nora thought about it for a moment. Xander had feelings for Trueman instead of Caleb. Just as a hint of doubt appeared in her eyes, Caleb said, “Trueman won’t let me near Xander, for fear I’ll take him away. So, all these years, he’s been the one taking care of Xander.”

Caleb then smiled and added, “But it’s also not true that we haven’t had any contact with each other. Xander, remember how you insisted on ordering medical books when you were four years old?”

Xander paused for a moment, then raised his head and looked at him. “How did you know?”

When he was four, many of the animals around him had died. Xander had wanted to save them, but Trueman had sneered, “You? Saving people is what doctors do! What’s that got to do with you?” Xander had then replied, “Then I’ll become a doctor! Dad, teach me to be a doctor.”

When Trueman heard this, he thought of something and scoffed, “The ones I hate the most are doctors! You can’t study medicine.”

In the past, throwing a tantrum had worked whenever Xander wanted something. This time, however, no matter how much he begged, Trueman simply didn’t agree. He said, “Where do you think your little animals went? And who do you think operated on them? You can be anything but a doctor.”

The executioners of the mysterious organization were all professionals and doctors who, in the name of scientific research, had long forgotten their basic moral boundaries as human beings.

Moreover, all the people in Truem’s entourage – nearly a thousand – who had died while he was growing up had not received a proper burial, but were dissected by the doctors.

In fact… Some who were not even dead had also been taken for experiments on living humans.

It was a very cruel reality.

Dissecting the human body and observing the likelihood of people surviving various situations that defied human limits were the best ways to understand the structure and limits of the human body.

Of course, they were said to have taken their cue from the actions of a country that gained much valuable data by conducting similar brutal experiments on prisoners of war. This led that country to be more advanced than others in various fields of medicine.

That was why Trueman hated doctors the most, especially those who studied biotechnology.

But Xander didn’t know that; he just wanted to save his friends. In fact, he had already taken the heart out of a rabbit and put it in a dog’s body….

So he went on a hunger strike and told Trueman that he would starve to death if they didn’t let him study medicine.

Trueman didn’t give in at first.

But Xander was stubborn and would never give in on things he had already made up his mind about, so he stopped eating and drinking for real.

Three days later, little Xander passed out.

When he woke up again, there was a tray next to him. On it was a juicy hamburger on a plate, as well as a USB stick.

Next to the USB stick was a fiercely written note: “You can only study medicine behind my back. If I find out, I will confiscate everything from you.”

Xander may have grown up locked in a basement, but he had access to the Internet and a computer.

He understood something at that moment. He got up, ate the hamburger, and then inserted the USB stick into the computer. Sure enough, inside the flash drive was a wealth of educational material on medicine.

Xander knew that his father Trueman had an awkward personality, so he strictly followed his orders and only studied medicine in secret, when Trueman was away.

Once Trueman returned, he would immediately stop studying At the time, he had simply thought Trueman was throwing a tantrum, but now that he thought about it again….

Xander seemed to have realized something. “Was it you who gave me that flash drive?”

Caleb sighed, reached out and ruffled Xander’s hair. Xander froze but didn’t push it away.

Then he heard Caleb say, “You’re as stubborn as he is, so I had no choice but to adopt a solution that offered the best of both worlds.” Xander lowered his head, took a bite, and then whispered, “Thank you.”

Caleb said nothing. Instead, he got up and walked out. “You guys eat first. I’ll go take care of the cook.”

Nora immediately said, “His mistake doesn’t justify a death.”

Although this was a place that none of the countries she bordered cared about, and many things ran corruptly here, Nora had never been one to show blatant disregard for human life.

The cook had been disrespectful to her and her son, but beating her was enough. There was no need to kill her.

Caleb turned and smiled wryly at her. “Of course. You think I’m Trueman?”

Then, he walked out the door after speaking.

Nora and Xander shared the plate of lasagna.

When they finished the meal, Nora told Xander to lie down and rest. Suddenly, she asked him, “You really haven’t seen him wear glasses this whole time?”

Xander replied, “No.”

Nora was about to ask another question when Xander suddenly turned to look at her. He said, “Mom, it’s Dad who won’t let me see him.”

Nora was taken aback.

Xander looked directly at Nora with a bit of dejection and sadness in his eyes. He said, “Dad said he was a bad person and told me not to meet him. But now it looks like Dad is the bad person instead, doesn’t it?”.
