When Nora heard Trueman’s squeaky voice, she immediately frowned.

Crap.

Not only was that guy having the time of his life teasing her, he had a huge dislike for Xander. Now that she’d beaten the crap out of his cook, he was definitely going to use it against her again.

She frowned and hugged Xander. Then, he looked at the cook and said warningly, “It’s nothing. Your master is already very tired, isn’t he?”.

Seeing his demeanor, the cook immediately knew he was backing out, so she immediately replied, “What do you mean ‘nothing’? Why didn’t you say it was ‘nothing’ when you hit me just now? Mr. Yale, you have to help me.”

After speaking, he immediately ran to Trueman and grabbed him by the sleeve. “Mr. Yale, that little bastard demanded me to serve you! Hah, but why should I? You personally hired me as your cook, AND you once said I could only serve you! On top of that, she even wanted to eat the lasagna I prepared for you! When I refused, she threw the lasagna plate at me! It really hurt! And that woman too! Boohoo, she really hit me.”

Trueman’s look turned a little nasty, and he looked at Nora somberly. “She hit you?”

The cook nodded repeatedly. “Yes. Not only did he hit me, but he also scolded me. Boohoo, I only cooked a lasagna dish for the boy because I saw it was pitiful. What makes them think they can boss me around? And even beat me if I refuse to obey their orders?”

The cook’s face was drenched with tears.

Nora eyed Trueman warily, wondering how the man was going to put her on the spot over this question.

But just as she was thinking about it, she saw Trueman stroking his chin. Suddenly, he smiled and did something strange: he pulled out a pair of glasses and put them on. Then, his voice turned sinister as he said, “Maybe it’s the fact that he’s your teacher too?”.

The cook was stunned. “What did you say, Mr. Yale?”

Trueman’s expression was dark and sinister as he repeated, “I said it’s because he’s also your teacher!”

Then, Trueman shouted outward, “Harry!”

“Coming, Mr. Yale!”

Harry came to the call. When he saw the bespectacled Trueman, he was a little surprised. “Mr. Yale?”

Trueman… no, now he would have to be called Caleb. Caleb pointed to the cook and ordered, “Take her out and teach her the rules. Let her know who she can and can’t mess with. Also, get another cook to make something for the boy to eat.”

“Yes, sir!”

Harry shuddered. He immediately lowered his head, grabbed the cook and led her outside.

The cook shouted, “Mr. Yale! Mr. Yale…!”

“Shut up!” Harry immediately covered the cook’s mouth. “Are you still playing with death even at this point! Get an idea of who you just offended!”

The cook continued to let out muffled screams as she was taken away.

In the living room.

At the sight of Caleb, all the tension melted from Nora’s head.

Caleb rubbed his temples and sighed. “He didn’t do anything outrageous when I wasn’t around, did he?”

Nora paused and then said, “No, he didn’t.”

“Good.”

Caleb sighed and pulled a chair into the room. “Xander, we’ll bring you something yummy soon, okay?”

Xander looked at Caleb, finding the man’s demeanor very different. He nodded and replied, “Okay.”

Then, Nora looked at Caleb and asked suddenly, “Can he hear what I’m saying to you right now?”

“No, he can’t.”

Caleb added, “You’ll only know when we have a conversation.”

“Good to know.” Nora sat down on the bed. “I want to talk to you about psychotherapy.”
