At the sight of Xander, Nora’s eyes instantly lit up.

Without waiting for Trueman’s orders, she opened the door and jumped out of the car.

Trueman said impatiently, “Hurry up.”

Trueman continued to lecture him. “Things are different now. Before I had all the time in the world to play and foster a bond with you, but now we have to hurry!”

“… I can’t bring myself to see Mom,” Xander said.

“Because you’ve disappointed her?”

Trueman’s words made Xander lower his head even further. The boy, who had his head down, was quite dejected. “Mom went out of her way to get the serum for me, but I…”

Xander really knew he had done something wrong. He had just said it when Nora came over. Hearing that, she looked at Xander and asked, “So, you know damn well what you did was wrong, knowing that, why did you do it?”

Nora watched him from the back before looking down to see an expression of surprise all over Xander’s face.

He obviously hadn’t expected his foster father, who had raised him, to be like this. Nora was about to comfort him when Xander suddenly said, “Mommy, don’t be scared. Daddy just says nasty things, that’s all. But the truth is, he’s really easy to get along with. He’s just…too lonely, that’s all…”.

The word ‘lonely’ was uttered in a very low voice.

However, Nora frowned and said, “Xander, human nature is very complex. You…will come to realize that in the future.”

After speaking, she took Xander with her and got into the car.

Xander sat in the back seat obediently.

Nora started the car again.

Two whole days later, Nora finally understood where Trueman was going. This place was on the border of three different countries. The government in places like this was usually pretty messy, and it was a place that none of the three countries cared about. The moment she walked in, Nora felt as if time had gone back twenty years. The surrounding streets were dilapidated and in disrepair, only cash could be used for shopping. There were even people bartering. In short, it was a very backward way of life.

Also, most of the buildings were low and the paint on the walls was peeling. From the time Nora arrived in the area, she could smell the food on display in the streets that was rotting. The streets were very dirty and untidy.

Nora started the car again and entered a dilapidated building.

As soon as the car entered, five or six burly men immediately appeared in front. Seeing the car, they rushed at Trueman and greeted him. “Mr. Yale!”

Trueman nodded. One of them said, “Mr. Yale, you’ve finally arrived. Since we weren’t sure when you would be back, we haven’t cooked yet. I’ll fix you something right away.”

After driving for two days and taking muscle relaxants every day, Nora was pretty tired.

She got out of the car. As she was about to take Xander to find a place to rest, Trueman suddenly smiled and said, “No need.”

Then he said, “My little maid! Go fix your master something to eat.”

Nora frowned instantly.

Just as she was about to say something, Trueman scoffed and said, “Otherwise, Xander won’t be able to eat today!”.

Nora thought the man must be a lunatic. However, he seemed to simply take pleasure in bullying her.

Seeing the playful look in his eyes, Nora’s eyes twinkled a little. Suddenly, her lips curved into a smile. She patted Xander’s hand and said slowly with a smile, “Sure.”
