âI donât need you to protect me.â
Hearing what Nora said, Queenie suddenly turned her head to the side and added, âBesides, thereâs really no need for you to do this. Treating you well was one of my missions. The mysterious organization wanted me to treat you right; otherwise, how else was I going to earn your trust?â
Nora didnât speak.
Suddenly, Queenie opened the thermal insulation case she had brought, took out one of the bottles inside, and handed it to her. âTake this bottle of V16. With this, we donât owe each other anything anymore. Go.â
Nora didnât take it, however. Instead, she started the car.
Queenie frowned. âDidnât you hear me?â
Nora merely replied coldly, âPut the V16 back in the case. If it stays out in the open for too long, it will lose its effectiveness.â
Seeing that she didnât take the V16 from him, Queenie hesitated for a moment before putting it back in the case. She scoffed, âYou werenât such a saint in the past.â
Since she was a little girl, Nora had never had normal family relationships. In addition, the few teachers she had had were all older people with high status in their professional fields and were very imposing. As a result, she had always acted as an extreme egotist.
Even during the five years she was abroad, she had been extremely cold and indifferent to people and did not care much about the people around her. That was why the Queen detested Nora.
Because she was always very cold and unresponsive to others, no matter how well they treated her.
During her time abroad, she had only made one friend, Tanya.
And yet, the only reason she had accepted Tanya was that they were both looking for their missing childrenâ¦. In Tanya, she had found someone with whom she could commiserate.
Nora again ignored Queenieâs comment and kept moving forward. As she did so, she asked, âWhere do you want to go?â.
Queenie: ââ¦â
She had said all that to irritate the woman, but it was clear she had already made up her mind.
Queenie knew her well.
Knowing that Nora had always been someone who knew what she was doing, she took a deep breath and said suddenly, âNora, not only do we have to watch out for Barbarian who will attack us along the way, but we also have to be on guard against the mysterious organization. Do you know that the mysterious organization has never trusted me? They want me to give them the serums in exchange for my family, but the truth is they are going to try to take them away from me all along the way! I know that sooner or later youâll have to face the mysterious organization, but you really donât need to do it for me.â
She looked away and added, âIâm not worth it.â
âItâs not you who decides whether youâre worth it or not. Itâs me who does.â
Nora couldnât stand to hear her say those things. Her eyes were fixed in front of her as she said, âAunt Queenie, I told you Iâm going to get you home safe.â
As she spoke, she put the Black Cat mask back on with one hand and then added, âI know youâre worried that theyâll think this is a trap if Iâm with you, but you donât have to worry, because itâs not Nora Smith whoâs here with you now, but plain old Black Cat.â
After saying this, Nora snatched the wine glass from Queenieâs hand and set it aside. âThatâs enough drinking. Donât drink anymore.â
Queenie: ââ¦â
She was about to speak when she saw a smiling Nora say, âYou havenât slept well since you left home yesterday, have you? Get a good nightâs rest. Donât worry, Iâm here.â
As Queenie looked at the stubborn woman, she glanced at the wine glass the other woman had put away and then frowned. She was about to pick it up again when she heard Nora speak again. âIf you donât do as I say, Iâll throw the wine out the window.â
Queenie shut her mouth and closed her eyes grumpily.
The car quieted down at last.
When Queenieâs eyes suddenly opened, she saw a small smile on Noraâs lips.
Queenie asked sulkily, âWhat are you laughing at?â
âNothing.â As she drove, Nora reached over, grabbed a quilt from the back seat and tossed it to her. âHere, use this.â
Queenie: â?â
Surprised, she asked, âWhereâd you get the quilt?â
âI put it in the back when I got in the car.â
What else had that woman put in the car while she wasnât looking? Queenie closed her eyes grumpily. She slept peacefully. Five hours later, it was already noon. When Queenie slowly opened her eyes, she discovered that the car had reached a tollbooth.
In front of them, someone was checking on the people in the car in front of them.
Sunlight was streaming in through the window, illuminating Queenie and warming her.
Queenie was a little groggy, to the point that for a moment she forgot where she was and what she was doing. How long had it been since she had slept so well? As she had a blank stare, Nora suddenly whispered into the Bluetooth headset she was wearing, âAlert!â.
Queenieâs mind instantly cleared.
She looked sharply ahead, and saw the tollbooth people walking toward them with wild looks on their faces.
Something was wrong with those people .
